History making group of soldiers re-enlists

Sunday, 65 men and two women held up their right hands and promised to defend our country.

They proudly stand as examples of selfless service.

These men and women know what the sacrifice is and they're willing to make it again.

Their contracts were due to expire within the next 12 months, but they voluntarily re-enlisted to ensure they continue to serve with their unit.

"We're brothers and sisters in arms,” said Maria Martinez with the Idaho Army National Guard. “And we get to know each other a great deal more than we probably know our brothers and sisters, our spouses, or our significant others. We have to because if we don't, we can't complete the mission."

That family sentiment is one that others in the squadron share.

"I wouldn't want them to leave without me and wouldn't want to be without them,” said Noah Siple with the Idaho Army National Guard. “I think that's probably the only thing strong enough in our lives that would take us away from our families.”

They have not received orders for deployment, although they expect those orders to come around September of next year.

The deployment would be for 12 months.

I'm sure the unemployment situation has something to do with a few of them, but the sentiment is still nice.

As I was reading the article, I thought that Obama supporters would dismiss the patriotic and "brotherhood/family" angle and immediately accuse them of being self-serving...

I wasn't dissappointed...

No this is near home and I know the people around here, and they are very patriotic. Our nephew has been to Iraq twice and will probably go to Afghanistan. That is why the one place we will visit Christmas week is to see him and his little family.

Thats because some on the right have a bloated opinion of themselves. They even believe themselves to be more patriotic then the left. More American, More filled with brotherhood and family values. Pathetic.

As did when about 100 re-enlisted. 6 months ago at Ft. Rily The home of the Big Red One.

Several stated that the market isn't worth the effort so to be secure they signed up for another enlistment... I wonder is this why the recovery is going on yet few jobs to offer to the average citizen..

You know they don't want a draft...
