Hamas and the free market

Quote:
After complaints from theh Red Cross and UN that Israel had slowed the transmission of humanitarian aid, Israel facilitated the transfer of aid by temporarily halting military operations and pushing transit through the Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings into Gaza. Did aid flow to the Palestinian people? Only those who could buy it on the black market:
Quote:
Hamas on Monday raided some 100 aid trucks that Israel had allowed into Gaza, stole their contents and sold them to the highest bidders.

The IDF said that since terminal activity is coordinated with UNRWA and the Red Cross, Israel could do nothing to prevent such raids, Israel Radio reported.

Between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the army had ceased all military activity in Gaza and once again established a “humanitarian corridor” to help facilitate the transfer of the supplies.

The Kerem Shalom and Karni crossings had been opened to allow in the aid trucks.
The UN and Red Cross failed to protect the aid, and instead Hamas used it as a fundraiser. Now they can use that money to buy weapons and maintain a little discipline in the ranks of the terrorist organization. The people who could already afford to eat can keep eating. Those Palestinians with no cash wind up starving.

Why does this sound familiar? Anyone else remember a UN food aid program that wound up supporting a tyrant while starving ordinary citizens? Maybe the UN, at least, ought to keep its mouth shut and let the Israelis finish the operation so that Hamas no longer has the opportunity to steal food from the mouths of starving children for their own fundraisers.
It's astounding that these people still have supporters...

Was it Sherman, Spence? Who drove the enemy to the brink of starvation (and probably a bunch of civilians too?) to end the engagement more quickly?

Remember that when Arafat died, his estate was worth over a BILLION dollars. Also, keep in mind that the Palestinian people are considered the dregs of Arab society due to the high level of criminal activity they've historically engaged in. In the late 19th and early 20th century, most of the Palestinians left the ME and moved to NW Africa, where they set up criminal enterprises galore. Soon after they were kicked out of those places as "undesireables" and most ended up in Egypt (yep, that's where Yasser came from). Once Israel was re-established, the "powers that be" in the ME decided that the Palestinians needed to return to their homeland and the crooks returned to the place of their fathers/grandfather's birth - still crooks and still fraught with corruption. Hamas is primarily a criminal organization, with more in common with le Costa Nostra, than with al Queida. The problem is that far too many people look at the Palestinians as being an oppressed people, instead of a criminal society.
