Default U.S. Expands Visa Program for Iraqi Allies

Quote:
BAGHDAD — The American Embassy in Baghdad announced Thursday that it had expanded tenfold its program to help Iraqi employees of the American government here, who faced threats for their work, to obtain visas and ultimately citizenship in the United States.

The program will allow 5,000 Iraqis to go to the United States for each of the next five years. Each person can take immediate family members, who include spouses and children. More distant relatives, including siblings, parents and grandchildren, can apply under another program. So the actual numbers emigrating will probably be considerably higher. The average Iraqi household is estimated to have about six people, according to officials from the International Organization for Migration.

American military officers and State Department employees who were loyal to the Iraqi translators with whom they had worked were forceful in personalizing the plight of Iraqis who were imperiled. Death threats were put on the Iraqis’ windshields, bullets were left on their doorsteps, they or family members were kidnapped, and sometimes their homes were bombed...http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/25/wo...html?th&emc=th
So does this mean the war really is winding down?

Yes certainly, these people who risk their lives to aid American soldiers
in the war zone certainly do not deserve our concern, (end sarcasm) What do you think will happen to them once US troops definitively withdraw?

Look dga if you don't get the point then why bother to try to insult me. I never said I was against it. What I said was true! When the Nam fell into disaster plenty of Viet-Nam people got a free ride while the soldies got squat.

Just becuse your for Gobalization and free open boarders in this country, which I am against very much do I try to insult you and your stand. Get your act together lady. All you have is opinion. I do have some facts on my side.
And if Iraq gets it act together nothing will happen to anyone. But then I guess you don't see it that way. You see what I do a real mess when we leave if ever. And even after ever! So yes help th eones who need it. But not before one Military servce person this time! You got a lot of HISTORY about our Military and reality to learn.
And like in your real country (where your parents or grand parents were born) you learn it from the people who went through it before you were there. Respect your elders more.
Did you know that the Vietnamess who came here in the last boats out, got free apartments, free autos and a stipen. While I lived in a cave and looked for food in dumpsters or the food banks. I wasn't putting my hand out and begging on the street. Now tell me about these Iraq's and do it while our troops aren't being given all they need for mental and follow up help while military familes are being torn apart.
We aren't even near leaving Iraq. So yes these people we need them in place now! Or whom will replace them and do they get a free rid etoo?

Just maybe you need to be blaming the people who are doing the killing. Or supporting our putting the draft together and spending billions more to protect these same people while they do their job. Or did the need of the job of translators somehow just stop being needed. Wake up and follow through on the completeness of an issue as important as this one.

mlurp: I was simply expressing my view on the issue, albeit sarcastically, and did not mean any insult to you. If you took it that way then that is on you, but I will certainly not apologize for expressing myself as I see fit, regardless of what you think is owed to you because of your age, your patriotism, or any other social standing you may hold,

I could go on and address your post, but I think my position has been made perfectly clear,

Do you think that 3-year old articles are going to support your point??? Try finding something a little more current....
