Default Villagers see off Taliban militants

Quote:
A group of villagers in northwestern Afghanistan used a machine gun, sticks and stones to kill two Taliban militants and chase 10 others away, a provincial police chief said Thursday.

The militants had tried to abduct local aid workers who were building a well in the Qayar district of Faryab province on Wednesday, said the police chief, Khalil Andarabi.

The villagers confronted the militants, and after a brief altercation, shot at them, killing two and forcing the rest to flee, he said.

The bodies of the dead militants, which included the Taliban-appointed shadow governor for the province, were still with the villagers, Andarabi said.

We often get willing assistance in the form of information from many Afghani villagers, but it is rare for them to to attack Taliban insurgents. They fear the reprisals the Taliban would mete out on the village.

Good on them! More incidents like this and the Taliban will begin to get the message that the people of Afghanistan do not want them in their country.

The people of that country remind me of our own hill people in America. One only has to look at their resistance to many would be usurpers through the years to see they're a hardy lot.
Yes good for them!

The people of the Hindu Kush are some of the toughest folks on the planet. They also have a code of honor that demands that they defend to the death any guest of thiers. The Taliban has used this to thier advantage (it's part of why bin Laden's been so difficult to find), so it's good to see them be on the receiving end of things this time.

Sure does! But best of all is knowing that we're gaining the trust and support from the villages. Still a way to go, particularly in the poppy belt where the taliban are still very much the paymasters, but every little helps.

Hey, you heard the news yet? Sadly some of our 16 Air Assault boys were badly shot up in a blue-on-blue yesterday. They were caught in a burst of 30mm cannon fire from a British Apache helicopter gunship they had called in for support.

Bad news, but it's always a risk in close quarter fighting when you call in air support. We've had a few close one's ourselves when we've had to call in air support.

Friendly Fire incidents are part of war. The new data info battle field is suppose to end this. Like collateral damage. It is sad. Our platoon lost as many men to friendly fire as to the enemy. But that was 1967-68
But they yell when it is collateral damage. Both a sad part of war. And the blame belongs on the ones who started the conflict. Not those trying to stop the bad guys and end the conflict..
