Arrow U.S. held hundreds of children in Iraq: Russia’s UN ambassador VIDEO

If America is fighting the terrorist organizations like the Taliban and Al-Qaeda, than why does US held children in its prisons?

What's going on here?.....

U.S. held hundreds of children in Iraq: Russia’s UN ambassador

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the protection of civilians in armed conflicts, Russia's ambassador Vitaly Churkin said that around 900 youngsters have been held in coalition prisons in Iraq.

Churkin said: “The involvement of children in armed conflicts and their inhumane treatment is intolerable.
“We want to draw attention to the imprisonment of underage people in the military jails of the multinational forces in Iraq, which is contrary to international standards,” he said.

Meantime, Amnesty International has presented its annual report on the human rights situation worldwide. It's challenged world leaders to apologise for six decades of human rights failure.
Its ‘Report 2008’ shows that 60 years after the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations, people are still tortured or ill-treated in at least 81 countries. The pressure group says unfair trials are carried out in at least 54 countries and people are not allowed to speak freely in at least 77 countries.

I found many correlating reports including in the UK, Russia, and Asia. Here's one: Rights group attacks US over Iraq child detentions | Reuters

I did not (yet) find any in CNN.

Saltwin, and why do we need CNN opinion? Or were you trying to verify the information?
Is Russia’s UN ambassador not enough for you?

Yes I was originally intending to verify the story, but I saw how many (looks like to me) reputable sites had the story. And I wanted to get the American view. So far I haven't found it in our news. I didn't search today. My connection is very slow. And I already have three pages open. I will look for one later.
But yeah, I want to understand how this can happen. And why haven't we known about it before. Why did it take a Russian in the UN to bring it into the news?

Murat Kurnaz (former Guantanamo German detainee) explains: I saw children overthere, 9 years old, 12 years old, and many kids were 14.... and they got torchered the same way, they got beaten up... and they had to live in small cages for many years...

Murat Kurnaz (born March 19, 1982 in Bremen, Germany) was held in extrajudicial detention and claims to have been at the U.S. military base in Kandahar, Afghanistan and in the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay Naval Base, Cuba for four years.
Kurnaz, a Turkish citizen and legal resident of Germany, was in the process of becoming a German citizen when he was arrested in Pakistan in late 2001. His detainee ID number was 053. After being imprisoned for five years he was released and arrived in Germany August 24, 2006.On May 20, 2008 Kurnaz became the first former Guantanamo detainee to testify before the U.S. Congress, which he did from Germany via videolink.

On August 24, 2006, Murat Kurnaz was released from Guantánamo Bay and allowed to return home to Germany. Held for over four years, he had only ever been allowed to have contact with his loved ones through letters.
Like many others at Guantánamo, Kurnaz was detained despite little evidence to link him to “terrorist” activities. Both US and German intelligence services had acknowledged this, yet it took years to win his release.

O.K., I saved the link to this thread so I can come back later with more intelligent responses. I will not have high speed for a couple more days. I want to look this up in a little more depth.
The comments I would make now may be ill informed. The subject matter here is very interesting and quite new to me.

If this is to be debated, it should be observed from all sides...

CNN.com - U.N. reports children used as*combatants in Iraq - Jan 18, 2006

And this report, no less disturbing (as everything associated with war)

IRIN Middle East | Middle East | Iraq | IRAQ: Mentally handicapped children used in attacks | Children Conflict | Feature

I don't know how long will it take but US will pay for this:

Murat Kurnaz (former Guantanamo German detainee) explains: I saw children overthere, 9 years old, 12 years old, and many kids were 14.... and they got torchered the same way, they got beaten up... and they had to live in small cages for many years...
