Post AP Poll: Obama's job approval rises amid concerns

Quote:
President Barack Obama's approval ratings are starting to rise after declining ever since his inauguration, new poll figures show as the country's mood begins to brighten. But concerns about the economy, health care and war persist, and support for the war in Afghanistan is falling.

An Associated Press-GfK poll says 56 percent of those surveyed in the past week approve of Obama's job performance, up from 50 percent in September. It's the first time since he took office in January that his rating has gone up.

People also feel better about his handling of the economy and his proposed health care overhaul.

But not about the war.

Support for the war in Afghanistan has declined, the poll said Tuesday. And approval of Obama's handling of it is holding steady — in contrast to his gains in other areas — as he considers a big troop increase there. Poll respondents narrowly oppose the increase.

Overall, 39 percent said they disapproved of Obama's performance in office, down from 49 percent last month.

While a majority of those surveyed remain pessimistic about the direction of the country, that number has begun to improve, too. The poll found 41 percent now believe the U.S. is headed in the right direction, compared with 37 percent in September.

But a large majority of respondents said they remain very concerned about most of the major issues facing the country. The economy was the biggest concern, with 88 percent saying they consider it extremely or very important, followed by unemployment, health care, terrorism, the budget deficit, taxes and the war in Afghanistan.
AP Poll: Obama's job approval rises amid concerns - Yahoo! News

The article lists seven items of voter perceived importance.
Four of them directly economic.
Health care indirectly a serious economic concern.

I suspect his approval rating will be tied to economic perceptions for a while.

I'm not too keen on polls. Especially month by month. It's like the stock market. You have to get a little perspective first, I think. Things seem to be shaping up, but I still worry there need to be more products made in America. Maybe I'm old fasioned but this seller driven economy gets on my nerves. I just bought a small item today. I didn't pay much for it but the damned thing didn't work. It used to be manufactured in America. In fact Americans invented a lot of devices and tools.
What scares me...and I realize we do still make some things...is we mainly produce communication and advertising. Not the hard products, mind you. The ideas. And that's good, but we need to make those hard products too. We can make them better than Taiwan and India and the Phillipines. Because for the most part we invented most of them.

Who the hell wants to buy a $200 toaster?

Anyhow, Obama's done nothing lately to warrant any change and yes ... everthing is tied to the economy.

I am perpetually amused at how your responses attempt to take minor details and fixate on them to attempt to refute something else that is COMPLETELY TRUE.

You talk of "Strongly Disapprove" and "Strongly Approve".
There are obviously MORE than just those and "other".
Obviously, the categories of "Approve" and "Disapprove" also exist.

The article reported the truth.[indent]An Associated Press-GfK poll says 56 percent of those surveyed in the past week approve of Obama's job performance, up from 50 percent in September.

That is 100% truth.
