Default Republican pols lie again about the debt ceiling

I think Mitch called it a "spending bill," and I guess the temperature takers told him their constituents would fall for that.
When they came up with a law to have to have a vote on raising the debt ceiling AFTER the credit cards were maxed, Republicans really were smart. They have this talking point ad infinitum, while still being able to spend like drunken socialists, which is exactly what they did when they were in power and now they refuse to vote to pay for it.

I agree that Republicans spent like drunken socialists when they were in power. However, you seem to want to excuse the Democrats for doing the exact same thing only to a larger degree.

I would like to see Congress and the President have the courage to actually cut spending to a level that matches what is collected. But we know that won't happen.

Why raise the debt ceiling? Democrats claim their massive $3.5 trillion spending bill is paid for. That's so convincing they have to try ramming through abusing the reconciliation mechanism to avoid the filibuster.

Nice OP, you have "evolved" from drive by videos to polemic hit pieces with no link at all as if emotive text is all that's needed.

Well, lets see. 1 Trillion dollars for the Infrastructure Bill, and 3.5 Trillion for?????? Spending on other things, what would you call that bill?

I think most common sense folks would call that a "Spending Bill"

Most of the 3.5 will go to Democrat states that are poorly run year after year, decade after decade, and are near bankruptcy because of Liberal spending.

To pay for what was already incurred (in this case by the GOP). The ceiling for anything Biden & co does over budget or to factor cost of living etc., will be voted on next cycle. That is why this is so ridiculous.

As usual blame Trump and the Republicans for the Democrats spending orgy. Biden is supposed to be the adult with 50 years experience in public finance but he's unable to control so-called obligations from previous administrations. The massive payoff to Democrat allies has nothing to do with Biden’s build back better scheme to replicate Venezuela's disasterous managed economy.

You are correct to note that the Republicans talk a good game when it comes to holding the line on excess spending, but typically do not back it up with their actions.

The Democrats spend like "drunken socialists"--to borrow your own words--and usually do not even show any embarrassment over it.

But Joe Biden's recent claim that this would cost "zero"--his own term--was ludicrous in the extreme. (Even if 3.5 trillion dollars were correct--and that is highly debatable, since those programs designed, supposedly, to sunset in the future are unlikely to do so, given the almost-certain political pressure to make them permanent--to claim that it would cost "zero" is, in another person's words, tantamount to claiming that if he just pays cash for a car, rather than financing it, the net cost would be "zero.")

This is precisely correct.

If Salty simply intends to mark many Republicans with the scarlet "H" of hypocrisy, she has a point.

But to take that further--to try to excuse this "drunken" type of behavior (because Republicans often do it also, that makes it okay) is simply absurd.

The tu quoque fallacy (which I have mentioned before) leaps to mind here...
