Default How Harry Hopkins Became One of the Most Influential Persons in FDRís Life

As the Schiff show rolls out bureaucrats whining about President Trump using Rudy Giuliani as an irregular diplomatic channel it's useful to remember past Presidents have used so-called irregular channels for diplomacy. One of the most prominent examples of the practice is FDR dispatching long time friend and close adviser Harry Hopkins to act as an irregular diplomatic channel.

Quote:
Hopkinsí assignment to meet with Churchill bypassed normal diplomatic channels. He held no official position, and when reporters asked the president if Hopkins was to be the next ambassador to Great Britain, Roosevelt answered, ďYou know Harry isnít strong enough for that job.Ē Recent events, however, had left a serious void in communication between the two nations. Ambassador Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., had resigned, and the British ambassador to the United States, Lord Lothian, had died just days after Roosevelt received Churchillís pivotal letter. Unable to meet with his British counterpart himself, Roosevelt told the press he was sending Hopkins to London so that he can ďtalk to Churchill like an Iowa farmer.Ē
FDR also engaged in secret correspondence with Churchill discussing ways to bring the US into the war. This was after FDR promised repeatedly during the 1936 Presidential campaign he would keep our American boys out of European wars.

Naturally career diplomats are unhappy whenever the President bypasses them in favor of a close confidant. Resistance Democrats in a show of blatant hypocrisy elevate FDR to greatest President at the same time they insist it ought to be a major component of Trump's impeachment.

You do realize that Giuliani was tasked with doing something that was illegal right? Its kind of a major difference here.

Wait a minute, of course you know that. You are just trying to gaslight and cover for your cult leader like you always do.

Tasked with doing something illegal? I am afraid I do not have your imagination so no, I didn't realize this was the case.

I didn't watch every moment of the Schiff show but didn't hear any testimony implicating Guiliani in a crime. Keep in mind the DOJ has already issued an opinion that requesting an investigation isn't a thing of value. Common sense tells us that is correct.

Guiliani's only offense, like Hopkins, was rubbing the career diplomats assigned to the Ukraine the wrong way. They repeatedly expressed their frustration at not being able to pass out US foreign aid at their pleasure under the mistaken belief they were the autonomous keepers of US foreign policy. The President's authority to conduct foreign policy is unambiguously laid out in the Constitution. But you knew that, right?

You know that Giulani isn't actually part of the state department right?

Of course you know that, you are just continuing your lies and gas-lighting as usual. Not only was Giuliani tasked with conducting a shadow foreign policy outside of the usual channels with not only the purpose of extorting a foreign nation for the presidents personal political benefit, but they were also there to extort Ukraine for personal monetary benefit by withholding American military aid and other support in their ongoing war against Russia.

"It's clear why Mike Pompeo has refused to release this information to Congress."

https://www.americanoversight.org/st...ican-oversight

"It reveals a clear paper trail from Rudy Giuliani to the Oval Office to Secretary Pompeo to tRUmp" to facilitate Giulianiís smear campaign against a U.S. ambassador.

And Pompeo's claims that these emails couldn't be released to congress because of privilege or classification, is just another Pompeo lie. They tried to cover up their crimes, everybody knew what we were doing and why.

Giuliani was not freelancing. Sondland was not freelancing. They were executing what tRUmp wanted. You are simply denying reality, which isn't unusual for you.

And not only is Giuliani being investigated for conspiracy to defraud the US, but also, money laundering, acting as an unregistered foreign agent, campaign finance violations etc. And his already arrested Russian associates, Igor and Lev have audio and video recordings of tRUmp involved as well. Not that I'm surprised.

You did read the OP, right? FDR used is buddy Harry Hopkins as an non State department alternative channel for diplomacy. Just as FDR had the authority to dispatch Hopkins, so too does Trump have the authority to send Guiliani. I know it's difficult but President Trump has the same authority.

After all the failed scandals, fake news, I'll await confirmation of these allegations against Guiliani. I am curious about the unregistered foreign agent allegation. FARA covers people lobbying the US government for foriegn interests.

Of course Democrats acting as agents for foreign governments like the Podesta brothers are exempt from FARA requirements. Paul Manafort is in prison for the same FARA facts as Tony Podesta. Manafort managed Trump's campaign for a while. Tony's brother John managed Hillary's entire campaign. No one is above the law, right?

Let me make this really simple for you since you obviously need me too. What FDR did was for the benefit of the United States and its National Security. What Donald tRUmp did, was for the benefit of Donald tRUmp and his political campaign.

Do you understand yet?

You are the one who lacks understanding. Are you actually delusional enough to believe you have some psychic ability to divine the motivations of FDR and President Trump? That is ridiculous.

The Schiff show presented a parade of self serving bureaucrats whining about how there widdle feelings were hurt because the bad Orange man entrusted Rudy Giuliani to do some of the ferreting out of corruption they failed to do because it conflicted with their ego driven definition of national security. It's very simple, the POTUS sets national security policy including assigning who will carry out diplomacy. It was true when FDR when FDR used Harry Hopkins as an ambassador at large and when Trump sent out Harry Hopkins. Hope that doesn't strain your self annointed mind reading capability.

it's a good thing we didn't stay out of WWII!

Hopkins didn't try to dig up dirt on FDR's opponents, subvert an election or try to cook up a false premise to past election interference, did he?

The issue isn't the US staying out of WW II. After pearl harbor it was inevitable the US would enter the war. The point is FDR was secretly conspiring with Churchill to get the US into the war in Europe after promising publicly to keep us out.

I am unaware of Republicans in FDR'S era conditioning US aid on firing a foreign prosecutor to protect their son's grossly overpaid job with a corrupt foreign company. Perhaps there was a law passed since FDR'S time granting unconditional immunity to Democrat Presidential nomination candidates? Maybe you can provide a link?
