Default FBI's Steele story falls apart: False intel and media contacts were flagged before FI

Wonder why Resistance Democrats are in such a frenzy to smear AG Barr? Besides the unabated hatred for President Trump, Barr's promise to investigate the basis for beginning the campaign of political sabotage against Trump set off a full scale panic among the Resistance zealots. Thanks to newly released documentation pried out of the Federal government by FOIA requests we can see clear evidence of how the Resistance within the Obama administration lied to promote the fake Steele dossier as a basis for FISA spying.

Quote:
The FBI's sworn story to a federal court about its asset, Christopher Steele, is fraying faster than a $5 souvenir T-shirt bought at a tourist trap.

Newly unearthed memos show a high-ranking government official who met with Steele in October 2016 determined some of the Donald Trump dirt that Steele was simultaneously digging up for the FBI and for Hillary Clinton's campaign was inaccurate, and likely leaked to the media.

The concerns were flagged in a typed memo and in handwritten notes taken by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec on Oct. 11, 2016.

Her observations were recorded exactly 10 days before the FBI used Steele and his infamous dossier to justify securing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant to spy on Trump campaign adviser Carter Page and the campaign is contacts with Russia in search of a now debunked collusion theory.
In addition to violating the FBi prohibition against talking to the State department it only took a short time for the State department official to determine Steele wasn't a reliable source of information and was promoting blatantly false conspiracy theories.

Quote:
Kavalec apparently needed just a single encounter with Steele at State to find one of his key claims about Trump-Russia collusion was blatantly false.

In her typed summary, Kavalec wrote that Steele told her the Russians had constructed a "technical/human operation run out of Moscow targeting the election" that recruited emigres in the United States to "do hacking and recruiting."

She quoted Steele as saying, "Payments to those recruited are made out of the Russian Consulate in Miami," according to a copy of her summary memo obtained under open records litigation by the conservative group Citizens United. Kavalec bluntly debunked that assertion in a bracketed comment: "It is important to note that there is no Russian consulate in Miami."
Kavalec documented this and a host of other falsehoods spun by Steele. Nonetheless, the FBI certified the Steele dossier was unchallenged and verified in their application for a FISA secret surveillance warrant against the political opposition.

The article contains lots more details about Steele's lies and the determined Resistance to recognizing his dishonesty.

After two and one half years of convincing 50% of America that President Trump was guilty of collusion and treason, this will be a hard pill for some to swallow. It will not go down easy or without complications and resistance to the medicine of truth.

Although they lied repeatedly,,,;

Comey won't go to jail
Clapper won't either
Neither will the Clintons

Sadly, the damage is done. The Republic will pay dearly for their sins.

Mind if I correct the above so that it's a more accurate statement.

"After two and one half years of convincing 30% of America, President Trump's propaganda that he wasn't guilty of collusion (that's not a crime and was not investigate) and treason, the Mueller Report will be a hard pill for some to swallow. It outlines extensive communications and cooperation between the Trump campaign and the Russians involved in the attack on the Presidential election of 2016. Much of what members of the Trump campaign discussed, and what Donald Trump often discussed through intermediaries, with the Russians remains unknown because only the Russians and the members of the Trump campaign know what they discussed. The Trump campaign members simply "don't remember" and the Russians aren't saying. If nothing else there's a conspiracy between the members of the Trump campaign, Donald Trump, and the Russians to prevent the FBI from finding out what was discussed.

Treason has a very specific definition in the US Constitution while "Betrayal of Country" isn't generally a criminal offense. The evidence that Trump has betrayed the United States is clearly evident to anyone that pay attention.

Yes, the damage of the Trump Presidency has, for the most part, already been done and while some can be repaired in the future there is damage than may never be repaired by future administrations. Aided by the Republicans in Congress the Republic will pay dearly for "sins"of the Trump Presidency.

Kavalec's handwritten notes have an interesting notation. Steele told her on Oct 11th that Cohen traveled to Prague:

On Oct 19th Steele transmits in the dossier that the location of the Cohen meeting was unknown????:

On Oct 20, Steele refines the location:

And Steele, (Source 1), who can't keep his? (Simpson's) story straight, was represented by Comey et al, to the FISA Court as:

Yeah I mind.
Unlike your responses, nothing I said was untrue or misleading.

The Mueller report on which you hung your hat for two and one half years of certainty to prove Trump collusion, has proven such to be untrue. Not only about Trump but "any American" And yet you continue to say Trump "betrayed" our nation. The calls of treason you now mitigate to "Betrayal" A foggy interpretation based on perspective of the viewer, not the facts. And therefore meaningless.

I'm still trying to understand the use of the term "Damage" from the left. President trump has surprised many, including myself, as to his intent and actions which show he is making every effort to operate within the law of our land. Unlike so many on the left who are not, and actually demand members of the executive branch defy the law.

Yeah, I mind

The Contempt proceedings against AG Barr are a perfect example of the left's continuing belief we must fundamentally change America. This even if it means ignoring or down right breaking the law.

Yeah, I mind

A demand that AG Baar violate the law and reveal all of the Mueller report, when by law he cannot is lawless. In fact by law he is required to reveal nothing of the Mueller report. Think that one through for a moment and then explain how it is lawful.

Yeah, I mind.

We now have members of the democratic party threatening to go to court to eliminate the Electoral college. Think that one through for a moment and then explain how that is lawful.
Yeah, I mind.

The article contains lots more details about Steele's lies and the determined Resistance to recognizing his dishonesty.
(1) Law enforcement and intelligence agencies have a explicit definition for the word "spying" that is specific to intelligence gathering in foreign countries outside of the jurisdiction of United States, US laws, US courts and the Constitution. Those activities are typically illegal under the laws of the country in which the intelligence gathering takes place and the US agents are engaged in an illegal criminal activity.

Spying does not occur in the United States where all investigations and information gathering is subject to the Constitution, US laws, and the authority of the courts. The FISA courts cannot authorize "spying" that occurs outside of the jurisdiction of the FISA court.

The FISA court can only authorize the lawful surveillance of US law enforcement agencies within the United States.

(2) Christopher Steele never worked for the DNC, the Clinton Campaign, or the FBI nor was Steele instructed to find "dirt" on Donald Trump. Steele, based upon a contract between his company, Orbis International, and Fusion GPS was directed to find out whatever he could on Donald Trump and the Trump Organization's interactions in Russia. The "dossier" was a series of memos based upon what's impartial investigation produced and was not orchestrated by Steele to produce any desired result. It is what is it because of what Steele long established sources in Russia provided about Donald Trump.

By October of 2016 the FBI had informed Steele that it could not go public with the information Steele was providing and the FBI collected information (much of which verified Steele's intelligence) on the Russian intervention in the election. The FBI couldn't go public because Mitch McConnell refused to allow a Republican endorsement so that Republicans could claim it was a partisan attack by the Obama administration against Trump

The information was "leaked" to the presss but who actually leaked the information originally is unclear. Some believe it was from a copy of the "dossier" that Steele provided to John McCain while other indications are that Steele directly provided a copy to the media for publication. What is know is that Steele became extremely concerned about Trump being compromised by Vladimir Putin and the Russians based upon the information he'd gathered and wanted that information made public to warn the US voters about Trump being compromised by the Russians.

(3) The application for the FISA surveillance warrant (not spying warrant) was over 100 pages long and contained years of information about Carter Page's contacts with the Russians including his known contacts with Russian spies previously. The focus of the warrant was a recent trip July 2016 to Moscow while Page was a member of the Trump campaign but that both the campaign and Page claimed was unrelated to the campaign. This claim was disputable because of Page reporting back to the campaign on the events he was involved in during that trip. Page had publicly denied meeting with top Russian officials that the Steele dossier claimed had occurred which was a valid reason for including this part of the dossier (not the entire dossier) in the application for the FISA surveillance warrant. It was later confirmed by the FBI investigation that Steele's reporting that Page met with top Russian officials was verified as being accurate.

Basically we have verified information from Christopher Steele's "Dossier" that was a small part of the 100 plus page application for a FISA surveillance warrant.

Included in the FISA application distant and indirect relationship between Steele's investigation and the fact that the DNC and Clinton campaign hoped to use the report it received from Fusion GPS as a part of it's opposition research. Fusion GPS and Christopher Steele were not engaged in opposition research. They were engaged in investigative research that the DNC and Clinton campaign hoped to use in their opposition research. Donald Trump was not the "opposition" of either Fusion GPS or Christopher Steele nor did Steele or Fusion GPS get involved in a political investigation because that was not what they did. They were directly/indirectly contracted to investigate Trump's business relationships because that's what both of their companies did.

"Collusion" was never under investigation and the Mueller Report cited over 100 contacts between the Trump campaign and the Russians that indicated a conspiracy could exist. The Mueller investigation did not debunk the conspiracy allegations against Trump but did reach the conclusion it lacked the compelling evidence to convict Trump or members of his campaign for conspiracy with the Russians. Insufficient evidence does not imply no evidence and the Mueller Report contains ample evidence that would be used if chargers had been brought.

Donald Trump and members of his campaign were never cleared of conspiracy with the Russians by the Mueller Report. They just weren't indicted and prosecuted for conspiracy by the Mueller investigation.

(4) Christopher Steele is not an employee of the FBI and FBI prohibitions don't apply to Steele.

Steele's "dossier" contains the information provided to him by his sources in Russia and does not promote any conspiracy theories. Others may have used Steele's information to promote conspiracy theories but the Steele Dossier does not include any conspiracy theories. It only contains information that Steele gathered during the course of his investigation. Much of the information Steele collected has be verified, such as his information on Carter Page meeting with top Russian officials in July 2016 on a trip to Moscow that was included in the FISA application, while other parts remain unverified or unverifiable.

Steele personally estimates his information is between 70% and 90% accurate which reflects very high quality intelligence in general. Steele never claimed his information was 100% accurate.

<<< RAN OUT OF ROOM >>>

Reading right-wing propaganda gets so boring because of the inaccuracies always being included. Can't anyone stick to the facts?

Thank goodness for the forum's comment word limit else we would be subjected to an endless from you completely detached from the facts of the issue at hand.

Instead of babbling about a false distinction between spying and surveillance a quick review in the dictionary would have shown the protest is nothing more than spin to hide illegal sabotage of a political opposition campaign. It is the same corruption that led AG Lynch to instruct FBI director Comey to refer to the investigation into Hillary's illegal server as a "matter" matching campaign rhetoric and minimizing its importance.

While you have the dictionary out look up "brevity" and "succinct" then put them into practice.

Fusion GPS is an opposition research firm that's what Hillary Clinton's campaign hired them to do. They hired Steele because of his contacts with Russian counterintelligence having been in charge of the MI6 Russia desk. After harvesting Russian disinformation into a so-called dossier Steele undertook a campaign to inject the unverified, salacious document into the media and into Obama's FBI and intelligence community. There was no point at which Steele conducted an independent, impartial investigation as you falsely proclaim.

The point of the OP is that it was obvious to the State department person that Steele was spouting nonsense including his dossier. She documented her findings in a widely circulated memo but nonetheless parts of the dossier were featured in the FISA warrant application and certified as having been verified.

The attempt to claim the FISA warrant application to spy on the Trump campaign using Carter Page as an entry point would have been granted without the false dossier is nonsense. Page's earlier involvement with Russian spies was helping the FBI and CIA root them out preventing espionage. If meeting with Russians or giving a paid speech in Moscow is grounds for spying on a US citizen How come there was no FISA warrant issued for Bill Clinton?

The FBI and DOJ knew the Steele dossier was likely fake yet they certified it as verified to the FISA court at least 4 times. FISA aren't supposed to be renewed unless previous warrants show productive intelligence has been produced but we now know from the Mueller report there was none to be had so it's a strong probability the FBI lied about that spying as well.
