Utah's largest News paper just sent a powerful warning to Orrin Hatch - ABC News Media

Quote:
The Salt Lake Tribune’s editorial board named Hatch their 2017 “Utahn of the Year,” a designation the paper says is given to someone who has “had the biggest impact. For good or for ill.”
Quote:
The newspaper said Hatch earned the title based on “his utter lack of integrity that rises from his unquenchable thirst for power.”
Quote:
“It would be good for Utah if Hatch, having finally caught the Great White Whale of tax reform, were to call it a career,” the Tribune’s editorial board wrote. “If he doesn’t, the voters should end it for him.”
man of the year

The Tribune doesn't like rescinding part of Obama's great land grab and Congress Tax Cut Bill. Now they got their panties in a bunch and their butts hurt. And that's the powerful warning?

The Trib got one thing right. It's up to the voters. Now President Trump won Utah 45% to Hillary 27%. The independent fared nearly as well as Hillary. 21%

People here who have relatives in Utah say Mitt Romney may run.

He might. Hatch is 83? He won't hang around forever.

Romney could easily better Hatch's margin. The Trib will not support him either.

Orrin Hatch ran against his first senate opponent with the slogan, "What do you call a Senator who's served in office for 18 years? You call him home." In 2012 he said that his 7th term would be his last.

That's 42 years, 48 and to the age of 89 if he wins again and serves out his full 8th term.

I'm guessing he won't follow his own advice.

Hatch Fooled By Newspaper Editorial Calling For His Retirement – Talking Points Memo

Haha. Either that was some serious dry sarcasm, or he didn't read the article past the headline, and thanked them for the "honor".

I favor term limits. Congress should not be a permanent career.

sounds good on paper but unless we change financing laws anyone can still be bought. So I favor public financing of elections.

The biggest problem in the Senate is the outsized rewards of seniority, better committee assignments and more campaign money from the national party coffers.

Perhaps more important to overall Senate function is popular election of Senators rather than appointment by state legislature. This deprives states of an effective voice in Congress.

If the voters want to elect the same member of Congress every 2 years it is difficult to see the threat to see the threat to the republic.

Public financing would mean that candidates like President Trump would never get to first base and we would be stuck with entrenched politicians forever.
