The NRA Says Gun Permits Should Be Like Driverís Licenses. Hereís Where the Comparison Falls Apart.

...states ...agree to adopt basic security and recordkeeping practices
The systems make it easier for police or other authorities to determine if a personís license is valid during a traffic stop or other encounter. No such equivalent system exists for concealed-carry licenses, and the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would not create one.

yeah if it had the same record keeping and hoops to jump through

Again, the difference between a privilege and a right is lost with some.

A license is required to exercise a right? That is a mind bender to start with?

Those hoops and record keeping are not to buy, transport and possess the car. Those hoops and record keeping are merely to drive the car on public roads and nothing more. Driver's licenses, insurance, vehicle inspections (in some states) and registrations are only to drive the car on public roads, its not to buy the car. As long as you drive the vehicle on private property then you don't need those things. There is no background check to buy a car as long as you have the money to buy it.Because the only reason the autodealer would do a back ground check is if you are taking out a loan. As long as you got the cash you are free to buy any car you want regardless of how old, new, fast, slow, big or small it is. So if we treated guns like we do cars then you wouldn't need a permit to buy a gun(like in some anti-2nd amendment states require). You could own anything from a musket to a machine gun. And you wouldn't need a background check. And since you don't need a permit to transport the vehicle itself(meaning its being towed by another vehicle or transported on a trailer) then you also wouldn't need a permit to carry the gun.

Driving is a privilege. The right to bear arms is an unalienable right. How, in the name of Zeus's butthole, did you think I wanted licensing for firearms?

The NRA did not exist back in the birth of the human race. I do assume you know what "unalienable" means.:thumbsup

I still find it ridiculous that one needs a state authorized "conceal carry permit" for "guns".

Quote:

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
"Arms" doesn't mean only "guns".
Bayonets, swords, knives, slingshots, clubs, boomerangs, rocks and more are all "Arms" when used for certain purposes.

Bearing arms is listed in the constitution, mode of transportation is not.
