One wonders if this law will reduce plane ticket prices and encourage people to start businesses.

Which one? I think the airlines will use any reason to increase fares. I also know airline seats in economy should be illegal.

Would higher plane fares encourage people to use airlines?

Wouldn't airline seat laws increase ticket prices?

If the government forces airlines to have large seats, do you blame
the airlines?

Why should the government force everyone to pay high airplane ticket prices?

If fat people want large seats, why don't they buy 1st class tickets?

Why not allow the free market to provide large airline seats?

What's next? Will our overlords force airlines to provide back massages
and jackets to passengers?

What country is this?

Minimum standards are what we are talking about. Just because the government getting involved means higher prices is not an excuse to being treated like a sardine.

Mikeyy, the public sets minimum standards, and the public chooses lower fares rather than larger seats. There are other options. First class, emergency exit seats, private jets. rail and bus or simply driving, to name a few.

If an airline can deliver 100 passengers across the country for $25,000 and show a profit, they will do so. If the profit becomes excessive, another airline will pick up the slack at a lower price.

If the government decides that the same plane must carry no more than 50 passengers, then the cost/consumer must double, or no flight will lift off.

Why is that such a hard concept to understand?

Fundamentally, there are only two ways of coordinating the economic activities of millions. One is central direction involving the use of coercion - the technique of the army and of the modern totalitarian state. The other is voluntary cooperation of individuals - the technique of the marketplace.

Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.
