Default Restore veterans' pension cuts

Right above this is links to your states reps. If you care use them.

My bother called me and said your losing all of your vets benefits, as usual in a panic.
I tried to tell him no they won't do this, so I pulled up my local on line newspaper and found this.
He had not read it but had heard it from my Dad who reads his nespaper ever morning. I do the on line news, some of the time

And it would seem he can't relay a message correctly. So if your a disabled vet, know a disabled Vet do them a favor and contact your states representatives and tell each to save our "Disabled Veterans Cost of living increase" sense there wasn't one last year.

Editorial: Restore veterans' pension cuts

Members of Kansas' congressional delegation should make that happen

Posted: January 10, 2014 - 5:32pm

By The Capital-Journal

The word from Washington, D.C., is the final version of a $1 trillion-plus omnibus spending bill will reverse a 1 percent cut in the annual cost-of-living increases for disabled veterans.

Members of Kansas’ congressional delegation, and all other members of Congress, should vow to make that happen.

The reduction in pension benefits was included in a budget agreement bill passed last month, but members of Congress were assured then it wouldn’t affect disabled veterans. Apparently, reading legislation before it’s passed still isn’t a priority on Capitol Hill.

Some members of Congress already have insisted the cut to disabled veterans be restored. Their colleagues should join them and take action to reverse the cuts to all veterans.

The 1 percent reduction in pension benefits was designed to save money, about $6 billion over the next decade, to offset cuts to the Pentagon budget this year.

Wait for it...

That would be a lot of money if we were talking about the state budget. But the United States in 2012 spent $645.7 billion on defense — 41 percent of global defense spending for that year. The 2012 defense spending was six times more than China spent that year on defense, 11 times more than Russia spent and 27 times more than Iran spent. In fact, U.S. defense spending that year exceeded the combined amount spent by the next 15 countries on the list of highest defense budgets, which includes the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Japan.

Granted, the United States has assumed global responsibilities not shared by all its allies. But if the goal is to save $6 billion, surely it can be found elsewhere in the defense budget.

It is widely acknowledged that the federal government’s budget is rife with excesses and waste. We won’t dispute that here, but it must logically follow that a $645.7 billion defense budget also includes its share of excesses and waste, at least a relatively piddling $6 billion worth.

To reduce pension benefits of veterans who have served long and honorably shows a great lack of respect for what they have endured. To reduce the pension benefits of disabled veterans is unconscionable.

Or the COLA for social security which was cut off a long time ago. To bad they won't get a cost of living increase however they sure are getting less.

Senate Dems vote to cut pensions for vets instead of welfare for illegals… Disabled military retirees NOT exempt | InvestmentWatch

Republicans tried to save the veterans from getting cost of living cuts, but the dems won out. The good news is the dems will keep the illegals on welfare.

How much you wanna bet that the MSM somehow tries to blame republicans for the cuts?

Gimme, gimme, gimme, the cry of the faithful Democrat constituency.

What's truly amazing is the surrender monkey faction Republicans didn't see this coming when they touted the budget agreement as a bipartisan accomplishment. Democrats view the budget agreement as a starting point with additional spending to be tacked on as needed to buy votes.

Of course the Democrat demagogues portray Republicans as utterly heartless at the suggestion the additional spending should be offset with cuts elsewhere while the media dutifly ignores any mention of the "bipartisan" budget agreement.

This thread is about Republicans striking up the heart strings for a gimme. We were pointing out that seniors have already given concessions on this w/o complaint that I can see.

Republican "extremists" in the House proposed amending the budget agreement to restore veteran pension benefits with offsetting cuts in spending. Republican surrender monkeys united with Democrats to defeat the amendment. Patty Murray dropped in $22 billion in extra spending above the sequester caps as the price for the agreement but now Obama and the Democrats want to hang Republicans out to dry for cutting veterans benefits and UI payments.

Don't misunderstand me, Obama and the Democrats are just practicing their usual dishonesty, sign a spending agreement then demand more spending before the ink is dry. The fools are the surrender monkey Republicans that hailed the budget agreement as an example of bipartisan cooperation.

The COLA could have, should have been restored with a corresponding spending cut elsewhere as part of the budget deal. In fact there was a Republican proposal to do exactly that. The cut was to illegal payments to illegal aliens. If Congress cannot cut payments to illegal aliens to finance these veterans payments, then the only method of financing it is more spending, a cherished Democrat objective.
