And thus it NOT just a matter of the them wanting to control something but they honestly feel they are protecting a human life.

It really doesn't matter whether a zygote, embryo, or fetus is or isn't a unique and individual human life; nobody has the right to occupy the body of an unwilling human host, nor to extract another human being's bodily resources without their consent.
When you claim that a fetus does have the right to do that to a woman, for whatever reason, you are claiming that women are not fully human beings and do not deserve the same bodily sovereignty that men enjoy.

Well they don't. They're just a bit of rib, boobs, and a vagina. I still don't understand why they make women's shoes. They shouldn't be leaving the house anyway. The need to be in the kitchen cooking dinner. When they're not doing that, they better be cleaning or popping out more children. Ever since women were allowed to leave the house, society has gone into a steady decline. And now that we've allowed them to vote...

/Sarcasm...

Some of us would contend--on purely non-religious grounds--that a human fetus is a separate human being, rather than a mere appendage of the mother's own body; and that this separate human being deserves all the legal protections of any other human being.

Note: As for myself, I see a vast difference between, say, a seven-month-old fetus and a mere blastocyst. The killing of the former, without very good reason, should be proscribed by law, in my opinion.

How, then, would you propose that the human race may be propagated, short of all nascent life's "occupy[ing] the body" of another, and "extract[ing]" her "bodily resources"? (Whether it is with or without the mother's "consent" is really not material to the point at hand.)

It should be propagated by willing women. And yes, the mother's consent is entirely material to the point.

Of course it's a human, but it's not separate. If and when it IS separate from the mother's body, or able to BE separated from the mother's body, then it becomes a separate, independent being.

No one is talking about late term abortions and there are extremely few people in the country that support them outside of medical reasons.

But out of curiosity, what is the difference between the blastocyst and the 7 month old fetus?

Need I remind you that it IS its own being with its own DNA, so its NOT just a matter of "her body". So in that sense it IS separate. So that argument becomes rhetorical.

Well, if it's separate, then instead of an abortion just remove it from the woman's body and give it someone else to take care of. Problem solved.

That would be fine.... if it was possible... but its not. And its STILL not "her body".

Yes, the woman's body most certainly is HER body.

And you're right, it's no possible. So we'll continue doing what we've been doing for thousands of years.
