Get back to me when you can explain the OA's inaction after GE got a refund on their taxes. Oh I forgot, GE's CEO is a member of the OA. GE good, oil bad that's real free market.

Oh wait. Except when it's the oil and gas industry - then we got to subsidize. But don't subsidize healthcare ![]()

"I think by far the most important bill in our whole code is that for the diffusion of knowledge among the people. No other sure foundation can be devised, for the preservation of freedom and happiness...Preach, my dear Sir, a crusade against ignorance; establish & improve the law for educating the common people. Let our countrymen know that the people alone can protect us against these evils [tyranny, oppression, etc.] and that the tax which will be paid for this purpose is not more than the thousandth part of what will be paid to kings, priests and nobles who will rise up among us if we leave the people in ignorance."
Thomas Jefferson 1786 August 13.

Yeah right, Bohner and all the rest of these dirt wads sleep just fine because they don't own a conscience. Can't let the little frail just pushing their tiny heads out of the clay oil companies miss their routine feeding. They might get mad and finagle prices higher like they do every year.

Once again government meddling creates a problem, choking off expansion of domestic oil supplies then offers a solution expanded government power along with higher prices. Please explain how stopping Obama from raising taxes to finance his latest vote buying scheme diverts the hundreds of billions spent subsidizing Medicaid / Medicare. |

Americans are free to pursue preventive healthcare, either with or without the aid of ObamaCare and its funding. My wife and I have been doing so for decades.
Your argument would appear to be steeped in the (highly questionable) view that healthcare is (or, at least, should be) a fundamental right. More specifically, a government entitlement. And I disagree with that premise. Thoroughly. |

It is an interesting dichotomy.
But it implies a fallacious conclusion. If oil companies are forced to pay more in taxes (however "fair" some may wish to portray it as being), they will not simply accept diminished profits as a fait accompli. Rather, they will begin charging their distributors higher gasoline prices; who, of course, will be forced to pass along those higher prices to consumers. So it is unrealistic to pretend that we can simply raise taxes on Big Oil, and (magically!) be immune from correspondingly higher prices at the pump... |
