No I mean the guy who went out kicking and screaming (sorry this was behind the scenes--no viral video back then) and didn't believe it would come to this? And the guy who was charged with laying those cards on the table as his first act as President?? I respect Nixon for many things but he utterly did not know when it was time to leave.

don't believe for a second that impeachment wasn't on the minds of some in congress --- from both parties (because republicans don't mind punishing their own instread of circling the wagons).

How well I know it was on minds. Many Americans expected it and dreaded the worst. If I have to hear how much more willing Republicans are to dump their wrong doers than Democrats, I will throw up into the swill that kind of statement spews.

ford was the one who decided not to turn the office of potus into a cartoon & nixon complied before the impeachment process marred not just the presidency but our entire government.

No, I believe as I read some of the back story that he was told to convince Nixon. He had (probably) assumed Nixon was ready to go, but he had to talk to him as did some other people. Nixon was ...like on the brink of a nervous break down as you can imagine. This is all documented now.

others not only don't mind the spectacle but actually live for it...

Today the people who enjoy spectacle are more numerous or perhaps it's just that they have newer and better ways of getting on the soap box.
We can agree, the process, whether continuing through impeachment and acquittal or leaving office after many of your close advisors and cohorts have been through the wringer, is equally difficult for the country.
Where we disagree, I think is that at least the people wanting to get rid of Nixon found somewhat of a valid excuse; those trying to get something on Clinton just pushed him through a process of investigation (for 90 billion $'s worth of smoke and mirrors) that cornered him into either lying or losing his wife. That's the difference in my mind and always will be.
I presume those who sought Nixon's downfall had the dirty secret tucked away for future use and may have wanted the V War to go on indefinitely. I have no real idea what was the main impetus against Clinton. Always follow the money is my motto, so simply wanting a Democrat out of office, or even my often touted theory it was to get back a Hillary, now that you think about it, wasn't the reason. Whatever money was in the works, Republicans did wrest the WH from their opponents eventually.
But then, but then again...there is considerable power now in that position compared to only a few decades ago.
