Even then, though, are you certain DADT would not have passed if they'd waited to deal with it in the regular session?

Was all this lame duck stuff really necessary? What good came of it? I mean, really?
if we are talking about truly winning, then yes, the gays won. if we are talking about political mumbo jumbo, then both d and r will claim victory in publlic. but, the repubs are angry about 13 months of unemployment for what they would term "lazy" people. the dems aren't happy about having to agree to give the tax breaks that obama swore he would end. the repubs. are well on their way to ending s.s.i., which they will claim as a victory.

if you want to point to one issue that the republicans can claim as a victory here, you can look to the 2012 election. the republicans will be forcing the dems to agree to making the bush tax cuts permanent. also, the republicans showed that by acting like children, they forced the dems. to cave in on their principles, just to get d.a.d.t to the floor. come to think of it, has obama been able to do anything he campaigned on?

Well one might say he came through on his promise to make energy prices skyrocket, but he never did get that cap n trade tool he was going to use to do it. He did get that dog he promised he was going to get.

It would depend who you ask though. Have you ever seen that site Politifact? It's supposed to be a fact checking site. They nit-pick, and misinterpret Republican remarks, and either don't bother checking Democrat lies, or find quotes they can maybe excuse. Anyway, according to them Obama has been as successful as Hell.

But back to the lame duck. I might have to withdraw one from the Progressives' success column. Apparently when the Omnibus bill was struck down The food nanny bill became impotent, because without the Omnibus it has no funding. So that would leave DADT as the Progressives lone success.

And I'm still not sure they needed a lame duck session to get that through, so I'm thinking the lame duck was maybe a total Progressive failure.

The Republicans would have accepted the UI extension if it had been paid for by offsetting Federal spending cuts. There is a valid objection to be made against extending wealth transfer payments rewarding people for not working but Republicans offered a compromise.

I am unsure the 2% FICA cut puts us "well on the way to ending SS. But I hope you are correct.

The current tax rates ought to be regularized, good until changed by Congress. There ought to be a political price to pay for raising taxes just as there was one for overspending. Bush Sr. broke his promise of no new taxes, it cost him re-election. Clinton broke his promise of no new taxes and got re-elected in spite of it. Republicans would have supported regularizing the current tax code. It is the Dimocrats who exacted a 2 year expiration as a price for their support.

You are so right about childish behavior on the issue of keeping the current tax rates, just look at the characterization of current tax rates as "cuts" or the insistence on limiting the renewal of current rates to 2 years. Why if those childish Republicans hadn't postponed consideration of the tax bill until after the mid-terms, oh wait that was San Fran Nanny's decision.
