Steele on GOP Chairmanship: "I Didn't Seek This Job"

Quote:
Michael Steele, who has been under fire for his string of idiotic statements, poor fundraising numbers, shameless self promotion, and telling Republican donors who disagree with him to "shut up" and "get with the program" -- now says that he didn't actually seek the chairmanship of the RNC in the first place.

In a fawning radio interview with Dennis Miller, Steele speaks of himself as a modern day George Washington, who reluctantly answered the call to serve.

"I didnít ask for, I didnít seek this job, I didnít ask for it," Steele said. "It wasnít part of my, you know, charted course in life to wind up as chairman of the RNC. You know, there was a convergence of moments here."

Now, perhaps Steele's right and I'm mistaken. Perhaps I completely imagined covering the RNC chairman's race, going to watch him debate other candidates, or attending the RNC election last January. Maybe I imagined receiving emails on behalf of his candidacy, and maybe this video in which Steele announces his candidacy by saying, "I want the gig. I'm ready, I'm ready to lead this party" is an elaborate fabrication.

Maybe Steele just forgot about seeking the RNC Chairmanship...

It's a shame that the RNC has an electorate prime for the taking, yet they don't have a clue on how to do it...

Steele is a man of good intentions, but he lets his "showmanship" slide so often, he loses a ton of credibility...

I can say that because he's a Republican...If he was a Democrat, I'd be a racist...

From what I've heard...he's in trouble plenty!!! His days as Chairmen may be numbered.

Possibly not...He sucks as an actual chairman, but he does well when it comes to fundraising...

...and it looks like that's trumping the conservative platform...

They're not angry over just this incident,I also heard that he wont go without a fight..

The irony here is this...if they give him the boot he may be the one playing the so called race card!

Time will tell......

The door is open for that, but I really don't see that happening...

Steele has bucked the victimization card his whole tenure as a Republican (not just the chair), so doing that would destroy his reputation beyond repair...I think even he knows that's not a route he'd want to travel...

Steele is a great fundraiser and normally a good speaker but he remains unpredictable. Showing him the door or keeping him in the mix is not without risk.Going on cable TV at this juncture and hawking his book may not be the timely thing for him to be doing.I'm sure he's hearing that from the RNC as we speak.
