Default Mouse Won't Respond

My computer mouse has begun to only work sporadically. It's very frustrating! I've been using a wireless mouse, so I thought changing the battery would help, and it didn't make a difference. Then I tried plugging in my wired mouse, and it is acting the same way. This is all on my Toshiba Satellite laptop, and the touch pad is also acting the same way - totally unresponsive more than half the time. A google search said removing power to the laptop would fix the problem, but it didn't. I don't think it is a mouse problem, but a computer problem, since wired mouse, wireless mouse and touch pad are all experiencing the same problem.

Any help would be appreciated, since this is extremely aggravating!

I just read that touching f5 may enable or disable the touchpad.
It could also be that your mouse driver needs updated.

Funny, our new kittens had the same complaint about the one they found in our laundry room. They dropped at my feet this morning and both looked up at me as though expecting I would fix it.

I couldn't.

I don't know how to fix yours either Lumara, but I thought you might be comforted that I share your pain.

It is my belief that computers are a gag gift from extraterrestrials sent to both please and frustrate humans. I further am of the belief that cats are also aliens, sent for the same purpose.

I know the feeling but I was lucky as new batteries fix it for me. So I would check out as Lollie said, "the drivers, firmware etc."

Best of luck in this quest..

I googled for a driver update, answered questions for awhile on one website, it scanned my system and said one driver needed updating. It didn't say which one, and when I clicked to find out, they wanted $9.99 to fix this unnamed driver! No, thanks! These updates are supposed to be free, and my mouse driver search didn't yield anything helpful, just that one crappy site.

I'm techno-challenged, so the only thing I can offer, and as bizarre as it sounds and may not be applicable at all, is clean your mouse pad (or what ever area you use to run your mouse, with alcohol (the rubbing type! ) and dry with a lint free cloth.

Then use a Q tip to clean the area on the bottom of your mouse to remove any built up residue.

I have cleaned unbelievable gunk off and out of my mouse (meece?) over the years, and it's improved the mouse capabilities.

Some of those links are going to lead her right back to a download and popup that she doesn't want to deal with, asking to pay for something.

I hope not... And if so I am sorry a search for Microsoft Driver Updates, free would turn up crap...

I think Lumara could look thru a few sites and find what she might need. As I was following your hint..

I might ask Lumara if she has a "Restore Point" that is at least one day before this problem came into being..

This would be my last

Oh I have one last thought... Lollie didn't you suggest two sites that were failures... Dang we are missing the mark today aren't we...

See people at times try to help others in need... And in doing so some times help isn't the best we would want... Yet we do try again when another needs the help/
