Default Has this ever happened to you?

I went to take some cash from the ATM I use and twice ( I go slow and check each button I need to push to make sure I do it correctly ) the ATM Machine instead of making the transaction a withdrawal it decides I want to deposit money. A bit pissed I instead try the amount in on the key, One Hundred less than I wanted but it works. the 3rd time, it works.

Now this is the second time this machine has done this with me. Okay I am happy and leave to go home.

I get online and first check my e-mail which is where my bank sends me alerts of any action taken that day.

I see a few more alerts from the bank than I am use to receiving. Okay get the check books out and read each of the alerts.

I see two for withdrawals of $400.00 each which i never received. One out of my checking and the other out of my savings account. Which I never withdrawal from.

Feeling a bit and and about to I shut this PC down and go to my business PC to check with my Bank and all of my accounts.

Aww the is over. Both of those alerts were false...

From now on I will just write a check or use the button with a set amount on it and not enter what I want.. As technology can screw up...

Then be happy as it did cause me some fright as at first I saw the savings account number which I didn't know as I hardly use it except to transfer some money into it. And it has no checks to write. I set it up this way.

I was thinking there is some fraud going on here

Then the other item which I recalled and thought man the bank says I got $400.00 when I didn't.
And I started to worry that I might have missed getting this $400.00 then realized I did get $300.00 after those two ATM mess ups.

I was ready to rush to the Bank and try to get them to understand.

But wisely had an and checked online... Which settled the issue..

That never happened to me, either.

I had a friend when they first came out with a few ATM's also who told us in Newark he saw these guys banging on one and when he got up to use it.

There was cash in the outlet. So he took it and more of the same amount came out again..

He did it a few more times and money was free each time.. So he felt he had won enough and left before a cop came...

And he got into a nightly card game and lost it all a night later. I asked him about this several times and he said it was true.. I still wonder though. But this situation makes me feel it is possible as strange things can happen with technology..
Unless your special like me

In 1990 something I was living in Philly and went to the ATM to see if I had enough to get a case of beer after work. I don't remember exactly but the balance, which should have been less than $100, was $360,000.00 or something like that. I bought my case of beer. Turns out a New Jersey smelter deposited it in my account.

I've had ATM's make errors a couple times. Once gave me a double hit and a single withdrawal notice. Another time the cash got hung up in the feed mechanism and could not be retrieved. Both were corrected the next morning.

They're computers, hooked up to networks. Sometimes they fail, but not very often.

Well if it were me and back when I would have gone into the bank with a big paper sack and made a hugh withdrawal of about $359,500.00 and left town for parts unknown..
