First off, I didn't know we had a Transportation Security Administration. And secondly, why would they block this content to their employees?
Porn I would get maybe even gaming sites, but...no I don't get that either...

The TSA are the people that slow down the line at the security checkpoints in airports.

There must be some reasoning behind this. Otherwise I would think the employees having free access (like, "hey that guy looks familiar, but I see no red alert---let me just google something...") would be in everyone's best interest.

Have you used air travel recently?

True story's.
A few years ago, my daughters and I traveled to CA to visit family.
Our return trip was scheduled for 5:00pm, at 11:00am that day, the airline called me and said that our flight home had been canceled. They said they could get us on another flight at either 3:00pm that day, or 6:00am the next day.
I opted for the 3:00pm flight.
Oddly enough, we were "randomly selected" for extra screening. (I know it was the last minute flight change)
When we checked in, they went through all our luggage. As in, they emptied our bags one item at a time and examined each item.
When we went through the security checkpoint, all 3 of us were "randomly selected" for detailed security checks. It was just short of a strip search.
When we were getting ready to board the plane, again we were "randomly selected" for a gate check. Our carry on luggage was again emptied one item at a time, just as when we checked in and as had been done at the security checkpoint.
Seriously, there was no reason to scrutinize us and our luggage 3 times. The TSA would have been much more effective had they scrutinized us just once and then scrutinized other people the other two times.

It happened to me again a year or two later.
Same scenario, I had a flight canceled and was put on a different flight the next day. I was traveling alone that time and only had carry on luggage. I was scrutinized at check in, at the security checkpoint and at the gate. "Randomly selected" of course.

The TSA is a model of government inefficiency and idiocy.

Another true story: Since 911, My husband had flown 4 or 5 times. Short flights. He has always been selected for extra scrutiny.
Looks like they would keep records after say the 3rd time he checked out OK.
I'm sure it was profiling. He's Cherokee and German, but you could mistake either of us for Middle eastern. I look more like a Jew so I never get extra scrutiny.

If my eldest daughter was any lighter in complexion, she would be as clear as water. She gets checked out also.
It's either our stunning good looks or last minute changes to flights that cause that.

His being singled out is cause he looks 'Middle eastern'. There aren't many darkies here in Idaho. If you don't look Spanish, their not sure what you are so they check you. I was kidding about them not checking me because I look Jewish. My husband and I have been mistaken for siblings so I get checked the same I just don't fly as often.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to block off certain sites, but what's at issue here is the term "controversial opinion"...That's a subjective term not defined here and could stifle open access to debate or information based on nothing more than the partisan feelings of management...

DoD has had this policy for several years. I suspect that the "controversial opinion" category is included so they can block folks (just a "for instance") like Jeremiah Wright who tend to excite people in opposite directions.

Restrictions may not be cool, but the Guv'mint is completely within it's right to go all out and restrict use to official business only - and if folks get all agitated over a few restrictions then the mindless beast will do just that.
