Forget Phelps. Did anyone else see the mens 100M final. Usain "Lightning" Bolt lived up to his name. He finished .2 ahead of second place. To put this in perspective, .2 is not much less than the normal spread between 1st and last place. Had the guy ran all the way through, he would have easily been .05 to .1 faster, but he did a little showboating in the last 15M which cost him a little. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in the 200M (his best event, in fact he's only been running the 100M for a little over a year).

Compare the distance between Bolt and the guy in 2nd place to the distance between the guy in 2nd place and the guy in last place.

Did anybody watch the women's soccer victory over Brazil? I just loved it when the Star Spangled Banner was raised, and our ladies received their gold medals.

Outside of the mistakes by the US relay teams, I feel this has been our best performance ever. Talk about balancing the medals between gold-silver-bronze.

America doubles up in beach volleyball!!
Americans Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh have won their second Olympic gold medal, defending the beach volleyball title they won four years ago in Athens, Greece. From Beijing, VOA's Jim Stevenson has more on their latest victory on the sand.

The gold medal game Thursday was played in pouring rain. But American Misty May-Treanor did not mind.

"We have seen sprinkles from time to time," she said. "And then it stops in the middle of the game. But to play in a consistent downpour, it can make the ball a little heavier. And she served a couple into the net, and the ball just has no bounce to it. It just kind of falls over. But I told someone earlier, that is why we play in bathing suits. You never know what you are going to get."

American beach volleyballers Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers have made history by winning the men's gold medal at the Beijing Olympics.

Dalhausser and Rogers beat the Brazilian team of Fabio and Marcio 23-21, 17-21, 15-4. Combined with Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh's win in the women's competition, the victory made the Beijing games the first time a country has won both crowns at a single Olympics.

I missed the women's match, but the men's was a blast to watch. The first game was neck and neck, but the Professor and the Thin Beast pulled it off. The 2nd was all Brazil. They played at the top of thier game and won. But, the 3rd was all America. Dallhauser owned the net, he showed why he is truly the premier beach volleyball in the world. His serves were screaming, his blocks were dominating and even his defensive plays were rock solid.
