I'm also a Chargers fan. I hope they are turning it around. I think Shottenhiemer was like Coreyell. They choked in the red zone. They were far too cautious. Lets hope Turner is more ballsy.

And the propects for future success just got brighter as they've signed Tony Romo to a long-term contract.

Kind of funny how Bledsoe was kicked out by two unknowns succesively.

On the down side, they'll most likely be missing the services of offensive co-ordinator Jason Garrett next year and that'll be a huge loss which might affect their performance. His play-calling is downright brilliant. The best I've seen in years.
He was a backup qb back in the 80's or 90's wasn't he?

You don't think boxing is a "true" sport?

So...I mentioned, I think that everyone in California lost over the past weekend...Niners, Raiders, UCLA, Cal, UC Davis, Stanford, Fresno State, and a couple of others.

Then the Warriors (not a basketball fan but then they WERE in the playoffs last season)

and what happens?

they lose their home opener.

Did the pistions win?

So anyway....NFL is kind of depressing here in the Bay Area (although I love to see the Raiders lose almost as much as I love seeing the Cowboys lose--especially at the hands of the niners)

And if the stupid Raiders sellout, the game between the Patriots and the Colts won't be broadcast.

Leave it to the Raiders to have their game against another bottom dwelling team usurp a game between the two powerhouses that are also both unbeaten.....

Maybe God is punishing California sports fans because of California's libertine ways?

I said I was not a true sports fan,meaning..I'm not a big fan of spectator sports except for basketball and boxing. Even then,I rarely get "excited". My dad always used to to tell me that boxing ain't what it used to be. My uncle went 2 rounds with Joe Louis. He was the golden gloves champ but he said he never saw Joe's punch coming. Joe nailed him with a short jab and he hit the canvas.Unc said Joe was a prince of a guy and was so concerned when he knocked him out.He even bought Unc dinner after the fight! Whenever I happen to see a Rocky Marciano fight I am mezmerized,he was truly a great fighter..

That damned Turner left us in the lurch and I hope that he ruins that franchise because he sure as hell ruined the niners by leaving so late in the hiring season.

Well, the Chargers fired Schottenheimer because he did not take the Chargers past the first round of the playoffs in the 2004 and 2006 seasons. The Chargers hired Turner as they felt there was no better man available. I wish the Chargers had a Bill Belichik or a Pete Carroll.

Who knows how far Turner can take a team with the talent the Chargers have? I have my doubts about him. The Chargers play at Minnesota this Sunday. That game could probably tell how far the Chargers will go the rest of the season. New England seems to be unstoppable. With the Red Sox winning the World Series, the fans could see two winners in a space of four months.

Coryell didn't have any defense to help make the offense easy. Dan Fouts was probably the best QB that never went to the Super Bowl. His legend still lives on. Some fans still wear #14 at the games.

If there was one other player who should have his jersey retired, it would be QBJohn Hadl. He wore #21 before LaDanian Tomlinson was given the number.

Hadl and Alworth were a great combination. Sid Gilman was a good coach. He just couldn't match up to the Raiders most of the time. When the Chargers won the 1963 AFL Championship, some people felt that they were better than the NFL Champion that year. It is a shame that the Super Bowl was not created before 1963.

I was a colts fan back then. Johnny Unitas was my hero when I was a kid playing pop warner football.

Harumph. GeeeeeeZ.

What are the playoffs like?

I remember back in the old days, when there was a qb named young, and a receiver named rice

and it seems that there were playoff appearances that ended in the first round,

but it was such a long time ago that I can't remember it.

The Niners would be doing much better if they got Shotenheimer to be their coach.

In fact they were incredibly lucky to have such a great o-coordinator in Norv.

Pete Caroll was a great defensive coordinator for the Niners.

He was a horrible head coach.

Seems to me that all of these recycled head coaches that were terrible one place are terrible another.

Belichik has really turned that over, but Turner hasn't.

Phillips might be turning it over.

I would be happy if Shottenheimer came in and took the Niners to the playoffs, but

I would prefer someone who sticks to, or is a disciple of, the west coast offense.

I don't think that Vikes are such a great measuring stick. They just lost another qb, and the Chargers defense is pretty damned good against good qbs, so....

Yeah, I am hoping the Traitors don't sell out this weekend so that we will get to see that game.

The Niners are going to lose to the Falcons this weekend and I would love to pretend that this Patriot dynasty is the old Niner dynasty and the Colts are the Cowboys.

Meh...I don't know about that.

It is likely that the Patriots will be the world champs this year.

Did you see that Willbon of PTI and some Chicago newspaper is saying that someone should try to deliberately hurt Brady?

I think that that is bullshit.

I think that the Patriots running up the score is kind of lame too.

But it isn't like the Pats offense is playing against pop warner or PAL, right?
