Judge Jeanine Pirro

Well, just yesterday, I learned that FNC has suspended Judge Jeanine Pirro for another week--making for two weeks total.

Presumably, this is the result of FNC's having been purchased by Disney....

The Good Samaritan

We tend to think of a "good Samaritan" as being an exceptionally helpful person--even to a stranger, perhaps--and that is not entirely wrong. But there is really more to the matter than just that.

Re: Trump will remove new North Korea-related sanctions because he 'likes' Kim Jong U

"[P]retending" is certainly an interesting choice of verbs. It blatantly overlooks the fact that Juan Guaido is recognized as the legitimate president of Venezuela by both Canada and just about all...

Re: Trump will remove new North Korea-related sanctions because he 'likes' Kim Jong U

This does seem like a reasonable point.

But it is a reasonable point only to the extent that it may indicate hypocrisy.

It certainly does nothing to disprove the core argument.

Re: The size of the Supreme Court

Politics, yes.

Corruption, no.

Ronald Reagan and Tip O'Neill had forged a close personal relationship, despite their philosophical differences.

Do you really suppose that the same can be...

Re: Poll: Support for ‘Medicare-for-all’ fluctuates with details

Just about all of Europe, plus Canada, may certainly be defined as welfare states. The operative question is this: Do we really wish for the US to transmute itself into a modern welfare state, just...

Re: Poll: Support for ‘Medicare-for-all’ fluctuates with details

Technically, this is correct.

But since we did pay into the system in this regard, Medicare and Social Security cannot reasonably be defined as mere welfare.

No.

She is not one of these "additional people."

Truly marginalized people--i.e. those living at the very margins of society (who currently have no healthcare insurance, and are therefore...

Re: 'I can’t understand why': Mitt Romney criticizes Trump for attacks on the late Jo

I do not remember having ever quoted the Heritage Foundation, in order to make a point.

But have you ever quoted a left-wing source, in furtherance of your intended point?

Re: The size of the Supreme Court

I am guessing that you are referring to Merrick Garland.

For openers, I really do not think of Supreme Court justices (or potential justices) as either "conservative" or "liberal." Rather, I...

Re: The size of the Supreme Court

This is known as the fallacy of the complex question. (In short, it cannot be answered by a simple "yes" or "no."

That is because it is really two questions rolled into one: (1) Is the...

Re: 'I can’t understand why': Mitt Romney criticizes Trump for attacks on the late Jo

Do you really imagine that an argument may be furthered--or another one destroyed--by the use of ad hominem attacks?

Perhaps "done" is the wrong verb here. But I am very pleased with his...

Re: 'I can’t understand why': Mitt Romney criticizes Trump for attacks on the late Jo

The words "brainwash" and "propaganda" are strident terms, which hardly describe what the Heritage Foundation does in any neutral sense.

Re: 'I can’t understand why': Mitt Romney criticizes Trump for attacks on the late Jo

Although the Heritage Foundation is, indeed, a conservative think tank ("right wing," if you prefer), it is not really engaged in "activism."

That seems to be the exclusive province of the left.

Re: BREAKING: AOC's Brilliant Take Down Of Ronald Reagan

I am not aware of this.

Could you link, please, to something that indicates as much (from a neutral source)?

Yes.

Although it is principally what I watch for the news, I get bored during...

Re: BREAKING: AOC's Brilliant Take Down Of Ronald Reagan

I will address President Trump in another thread.

As for Fox News, it is quite difficult for me to understand just how you might characterize the channel as a "liar."

Note: The nighttime...

The size of the Supreme Court

Some Democrats are now suggesting that a future Democratic president should pack the Supreme Court with 15 justices. And since the US Constitution does not set a specific number, this change would...

Re: 'I can’t understand why': Mitt Romney criticizes Trump for attacks on the late Jo

A few thoughts on the matter:

(1) It is quite possible to like someone--and consider him, indeed, to be an honorable person--while still disagreeing, strongly, with his political positions.

(2)...

Re: BREAKING: AOC's Brilliant Take Down Of Ronald Reagan

Although this was addressed to someone else, the fact remains that Fox Derangement Syndrome is just as prevalent, among the left, as Trump Derangement Syndrome is.

Apparently, some people on the...

You are certainly correct in your assessment of the standard needed to impeach. (Actually, it is more of a political matter than a legal matter, anyway: there is really no such thing as a legal...

The Australian stock market

If the American stock index--the oldest and largest, anyway--is the Dow-Jones Industrial Average, should the Australian equivalent be the Dow-Nunder Index?

Anyone who uses such terms as "dumbass," "Trumpublicans," "corrupt republicans," "criminal president," "traitors," and "morons"--in the context given--is obviously not a serious...

But the point is this: More people will naturally seek...

Re: Poll: Support for ‘Medicare-for-all’ fluctuates with details

There are currently no long waiting lines for Medicare patients. (There are, however, some doctors who refuse to accept Medicare--and/or Medicaid--because of their low reimbursement rates.)

But...
