Re: Do you think the "War on Christmas" is real?

Here is something to think about.

From Slate online magazine:

"After watching a few of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas films, the network’s burgeoning red-state appeal comes into focus. As...

Re: Do you think the "War on Christmas" is real?

I have said before--and I will say again--that members of other faiths do not appear to be offended by Christmas displays. Or by the greeting, "Merry Christmas!"

It is only militant atheists--or,...

Re: Fox News Live - Alabama Special Election

It may be of note that Roy Moore has still not conceded the race. The reflexive view of this is that he is merely a sore loser. But there may be more at play here than just that.

For one thing,...

Re: Fox News Live - Alabama Special Election

That is actually close to what I thought it would be.

The first hint that Roy Moore might be in trouble--at least, the first that I saw--was the fact that there was a heavy turnout. This seemed...

Re: Do you think the "War on Christmas" is real?

I would not claim that this is precisely a "Christian country."

But it is a Christian-majority country.

So if the majority wishes to express itself on public property, I really see no problem...

Re: Do you think the "War on Christmas" is real?

Whether one wishes to call it a "war on Christmas" or not, the fact remains that some people believe that it is more "inclusive" (a high value among liberals) to proclaim "Happy holidays!", rather...

Re: Israel and it's Neighbors

Again, you applaud the forces of globalism (as represented by the UN Security Council).

As far as I am concerned, the UN Security Council has about as much moral authority as, say, Bonnie and...

Re: Israel and it's Neighbors

There is an enormous difference between the theoretical and the enforceable.

Unless one is both willing and able to use military force in order to thwart the Right of Conquest--and just how would...

Re: Israel and it's Neighbors

This is just another claim that "The Global Community" (which is non-existent, as far as I am concerned) should supersede the nation-state...

Re: Israel and it's Neighbors

I will not even comment upon the view that Israeli settlements are "illegal," other than to say that this is based upon the pontifications of an international body; and I have no respect for any such...

Re: So It's not a WAR on Christmas...But itís what?

You are quite correct that I would respect you, if you were a guest at my house on December 25th (or any other day); and I assume (as you have stated) that it would be reciprocal.

But the word,...

Re: So It's not a WAR on Christmas...But itís what?

Certainly, merchants are "promoting" Christmas precisely because it is in their financial self-interest to do so.

But the culture is quite another matter.

First, it has taken Christ out of...

Our current military readiness

I have long known that our military is hollowed out. Mere comparisons of how many divisions the US has, vis-ŗ-vis other countries, blatantly ignores this fact.

Less than a week ago, however,...

Re: So It's not a WAR on Christmas...But itís what?

I have noticed this, too.

And it is not all atheists. (George Will, for instance--my favorite political commentator--refers to himself as a "low-voltage atheist"; by which, I assume that he means...

Re: So It's not a WAR on Christmas...But itís what?

For the record, those of us who are right-of-center do not consider ourselves "victims," as regarding Christmas. We merely resent the way that political correctness has affected its expression.

"Son of Man" versus "Son of God"

Sometimes, in the New Testament, Jesus refers to Himself of the "Son of God."

Other times, He says, the "Son of Man."

It is surely tempting to see the former as a more profound statement.

Never a reference to FNC

The Number One news channel, by far, is Fox News Channel (FNC, for short). It far outpaces both CNN and MSNBC combined.

Yet it seems to be utterly ignored by other media outlets.

For...

Re: Harvard prof. takes down gender wage gap myth

Because just one person was "cheated," it is therefore "valid" to argue that this is "a systemic problem"?

Again: That is arguing from the specific to the general; which is simply fallacious.

Re: Harvard prof. takes down gender wage gap myth

To argue from the specific to the general is a logical fallacy.

Example: Mary is 6' tall, whereas Bob is only 5'6"; therefore, we know that all women are taller than all men.

Re: Harvard prof. takes down gender wage gap myth

Some who claim (otherwise) to be "pro-choice" do not seem to believe that women should have the choice to either (1) pursue their careers aggressively; or (2) take a more balanced approach, with...

The modern shortening of "Christians"

As the Christmas season approaches, it seems like an appropriate time to mention this.

For many decades now, Christmas has often been termed "Xmas." The usual rationalization for this is that the...

Re: Michigan Rep. John Conyers denies sexual harassment settlements

It would be wrong to choose up teams, and automatically dismiss any charge against a Republican, while eagerly accepting any charge against a Democrat.

But it does seem rather unusual for Rep....

Re: North Korea... :-(

(1) An appeal to "the experts"--without naming them, or specifying what they have said (and without noting any countervailing "experts") is really meaningless.

(2) It is certainly correct to note...

That has not been my experience. But I will admit to a center-right bias--just as you have a center-left bias--so I am not claiming complete objectivity.

Those who feel the need to resort to...

Re: Feminism

The rationalization for this (and that is all it was: a rationalization) was that women can depend upon the earnings of their spouses; therefore, they just don't need as much income.

Of course,...
