Re: Waffle House shooting leaves 4 dead, several injured; gunman sought

I lived in Nashville for almost 33 years (and now live about 30 miles southeast of there).

What many people elsewhere may not know is that Nashville includes all of Davidson County, Tennessee (and...

Re: Democratic Party files suit alleging conspiracy by Trump campaign, Russia, WikiLe

Do you seriously believe that James Comey is ethically pure, and "only concerned with enforcement of the law"? (And this from a man so petty as to comment upon Donald Trump's skin, hair, and...

Re: Democratic Party files suit alleging conspiracy by Trump campaign, Russia, WikiLe

There is such a thing as attorney/client privilege.

Yes, it can (possibly) be vitiated. But the standard is very high: There must be good reason to believe that fraud or some other crime is...

Re: Democratic Party files suit alleging conspiracy by Trump campaign, Russia, WikiLe

My guess is that this is merely a stunt--political theater--designed to fire up the Democratic base, and thereby ensure a large Democratic turnout in November, for the midterms...

A bar in the shower

Someone asked, on Facebook, if it might be wise to install a "bar" in the shower for the elderly.

A post came back, showing a nook containing Maker's Mark, Jack Daniel's, etc.

Re: Rasmussen Explains Methodology Of Poll That Has Trump At 51 Percent Approval

Actually, that strikes me as being wise.

Depends.

As a general rule, blacks and Hispanics do vote less often than whites.

But if racial and ethnic minorities are highly motivated--say,...

Re: Striking the Syrian Regime is not legit

I simply have no idea what you might mean by "very few" Republicans (yes, with a capital "R") having respected the office when Barack Obama was president. (Some attached to the fringe--"Birthers,"...

Re: Russia a "second-rate" power?

North Korea, as previously noted, is headed by a dictator of questionable sanity; so he might just fire off nukes--unlike most others.

In Syria, Assad is quintessentially evil. Whether that...

Re: Russia a "second-rate" power?

At best, Russia is a regional power; but on a worldwide scale, it is really nothing to be concerned about.

Nuclear weapons are useful only for their non-use--as a sort of bluff.

No one...

Re: Striking the Syrian Regime is not legit

Even if you do not like or respect the man, it is important, nonetheless, to respect the office that he holds.

To refer to the president, flippantly, as "Donald"--rather than as "President...

Re: Striking the Syrian Regime is not legit

There is no doubt that Russia wants (1) a warm-water port in that part of the world; and (2) to push the US out of the Middle East, so that it may gain total influence in that part of the world.

Russia a "second-rate" power?

Retired General Jack Keane made some very good points just yesterday morning, on FNC: He noted that Russia is "a second-rate military power," masquerading as a "superpower."

He concluded,...

Re: Evangelicals and fundamentalists--and Donald Trump

The majority, I think, support Donald Trump.

As I have said before, Donald Trump never ran for the office of minister-in-chief.

And fundamentalists, I believe, would be quite consistent in...

Re: Constitution Challenged As Federal Court Bans AR-15

I think that "unusual" is a synonym for rare.

Would you suggest, for instance, that conjoined twins--which are quite unusual--are not truly rare?

Re: President Trump and Jeff Sessions

Both of these are excellent responses.

But they still do not answer the question: Why does Jeff Sessions not just resign, under the circumstances?

When I was working (which has been just...

President Trump and Jeff Sessions

Once again, President Trump has taken a slap against his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions. And once again, it was for having recused himself from the Russia hearings, more than 13 months ago.

It...

Re: Cuomo Tells Black Church Jews Canít Dance

If Gov. Cuomo had made fun of black people, a large number of Americans would have been outraged (and properly so).

But it appears to be okay for him to make fun of Catholics and Baptists...

Re: Evangelicals and fundamentalists--and Donald Trump

You have chosen to use the passive voice; so I am uncertain as to your meaning here.

Still, I hope that my answer is on target.

I do not believe that fundamentalists should oppose Donald Trump...

Re: Evangelicals and fundamentalists--and Donald Trump

In some cases, you are correct: When liberals worry about a theocracy, it is usually intended more to frighten than to enlighten.

But I am certainly not a liberal. No, very far from it.

Re: Evangelicals and fundamentalists--and Donald Trump

Close.

I would say that some people do not have any moral compass whatsoever--they are purely Machiavellian--whereas others can discern right from wrong, and sometimes fall short of their beliefs....

Re: Evangelicals and fundamentalists--and Donald Trump

I think what some people may be overlooking is that there is a vast difference between immorality and amorality.

Donald Trump, at times, has appeared to act in an immoral fashion.

But...

I have heard that canard, too--not from a minority person, but from an ultra-liberal white person.

Evangelicals and fundamentalists--and Donald Trump

Sometimes I hear mutterings from liberals, wondering just how "evangelicals" could support Donald Trump, given his (posited) infidelities.

For one thing, these people are confusing "evangelicals"...
