ABC TURNS PROGRAMMING OVER TO OBAMA

Quote:
On the night of June 24, the media and government become one, when ABC turns its programming over to President Obama and White House officials to push government run health care -- a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm!

Highlights on the agenda:

ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the Blue Room of the White House.

The network plans a primetime special -- 'Prescription for America' -- originating from the East Room, exclude opposing voices on the debate.

Late Monday night, Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay fired off a complaint to the head of ABCNEWS:

Dear Mr. Westin:

As the national debate on health care reform intensifies, I am deeply concerned and disappointed with ABC's astonishing decision to exclude opposing voices on this critical issue on June 24, 2009. Next Wednesday, ABC News will air a primetime health care reform “town hall” at the White House with President Barack Obama. In addition, according to an ABC News report, GOOD MORNING AMERICA, WORLD NEWS, NIGHTLINE and ABC’s web news “will all feature special programming on the president’s health care agenda.” This does not include the promotion, over the next 9 days, the president’s health care agenda will receive on ABC News programming.

Today, the Republican National Committee requested an opportunity to add our Party's views to those of the President's to ensure that all sides of the health care reform debate are presented. Our request was rejected. I believe that the President should have the ability to speak directly to the America people. However, I find it outrageous that ABC would prohibit our Party's opposing thoughts and ideas from this national debate, which affects millions of ABC viewers.
Why hire lobbyists when the media will do all of the work for you?...

I just watch ABC sometimes in the evening if they have a show I like. So let them waste their time and air space.

I don't see the issue. The media gave time to FDR to present his plans to the American people. This is Americans helping the president. Why does it have to be seen through political partisan glasses. You want equal time?

Default ABC News to supply President Obama with an infomercial as concerning healthcare?

The following is from the Drudge Report:

"On the night of June 24, the media and government become one, when ABC turns its programming over to President Obama and White House officials to push government run health care -- a move that has ignited an ethical firestorm!

"Highlights on the agenda:

"ABCNEWS anchor Charlie Gibson will deliver WORLD NEWS from the Blue Room of the White House.

"The network plans a primetime special -- 'Prescription for America' -- originating from the East Room, exclude opposing voices on the debate.

"The Director of Communications at the White House Office of Health Reform is Linda Douglass, who worked as a reporter for ABC News from 1998-2006.

"Late Monday night, Republican National Committee Chief of Staff Ken McKay fired off a complaint to the head of ABCNEWS:

"Dear Mr. Westin:

"As the national debate on health care reform intensifies, I am deeply concerned and disappointed with ABC's astonishing decision to exclude opposing voices on this critical issue on June 24, 2009. Next Wednesday, ABC News will air a primetime health care reform “town hall” at the White House with President Barack Obama. "Today, the Republican National Committee requested an opportunity to add our Party's views to those of the President's to ensure that all sides of the health care reform debate are presented. Our request was rejected. I believe that the President should have the ability to speak directly to the America people. However, I find it outrageous that ABC would prohibit our Party's opposing thoughts and ideas from this national debate, which affects millions of ABC viewers.

"In the absence of opposition, I am concerned this event will become a glorified infomercial to promote the Democrat agenda. If that is the case, this primetime infomercial should be paid for out of the DNC coffers. President Obama does not hold a monopoly on health care reform ideas or on free airtime. The President has stated time and time again that he wants a bipartisan debate. Therefore, the Republican Party should be included in this primetime event, or the DNC should pay for your airtime.

"Respectfully,
Ken McKay
Republican National Committee
Chief of Staff"

The article goes on to quote a perfunctory response from ABC News' Senior Vice-President, Kerry Smith:

"ABCNEWS prides itself on covering all sides of important issues and asking direct questions of all newsmakers -- of all political persuasions -- even when others have taken a more partisan approach and even in the face of criticism from extremes on both ends of the political spectrum. ABCNEWS is looking for the most thoughtful and diverse voices on this issue.

"ABCNEWS alone will select those who will be in the audience asking questions of the president. Like any programs we broadcast, ABC News will have complete editorial control. To suggest otherwise is quite unfair to both our journalists and our audience."

Somehow, those words do not do a great deal to comfort me...

Do you righty's send each other these stories? This one was whined about already by the right. They seem to think it "Isn't fair" That the POTUS is given a platform to explain his plans for the nation. Much like was done for FDR. But that isn't fair. Because there is a war between the left and the right. So giving the POTUS time to explain his plans to the country he leads is partisan.

You really got to get over this partisan stuff. He is the POTUS. Like it or not.

Not allowing alternate views is partisan.

You're advocating the partisanship here.

FDR delivered fireside chats on a less than weekly basis that ranged from 15-45 minutes. The POTUS still gives a weekly address, but guess what ...

We, the people, decided that giving the POTUS free airtime like that while not allowing alternative points of view wasn't a good thing, so we started doing that. Do you just like regression or something?

Next thing you know Obama will say that women shouldn't be allowed to vote and you'll be all for that too. Stop being a sheep man and rediscover your principles ... if you actually have any.

I really don't watch as much as I use to ABC, NBC or CBS sense i got my first satellite dish back in the early 1990's and then when I got married and sold the house in KS. I got Direct TV. Now I have cox cable with Stazrs and HBO.

I need to be clearer on some items which is best for all.

ABC REFUSES OPPOSITION ADS DURING WHITE HOUSE SPECIAL

Quote:
ABC is refusing to air paid ads during its White House health care presentation, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned, including a paid-for alternative viewpoint!

The development comes a day after the network denied a request by the Republican National Committee to feature a representative of the party's views during the Obama special.

Conservatives for Patients Rights requested the rates to buy a 60-second spot immediately preceding 'Prescription for America'.

Statement from Rick Scott, chairman of Conservatives for Patients Rights:

"It is unfortunate - and unusual - that ABC is refusing to accept paid advertising that would present an alternative viewpoint for the White House health care event. Health care is an issue that touches every American and all potential pieces of legislation have carried a pricetag in excess of $1 trillion of taxpayers' money. The American people deserve a healthy, robust debate on this issue and ABC's decision - as of now - to exclude even paid advertisements that present an alternative view does a disservice to the public. Our organization is more than willing to purchase ad time on ABC to present an alternative viewpoint and our hope is that ABC will reconsider having such viewpoints be part of this crucial debate for the American people. We were surprised to hear that paid advertisements would not be accepted when we inquired and we would certainly be open to purchasing time if ABC would reconsider."
So not only will ABC stifle opposing viewpoints and do Obama's bidding on the show itself, they're now refusing free market advertising to stifle opposing viewpoints being convyed anywhere throughout their propaganda show...

Its not a debate redd. The debates are over. Obama won. He doesn't need to debate with someone over where he is taking the country. You had that chance in November.

False...

You have some fantasy notion that because a president is elected, then whatever he says goes...

That is not a democracy, that is a 4-year dictatorship...

If what you NOW believe is true, Bush would've had private social security options in place years ago...

The debates are NEVER OVER...People elect a president, but they DON'T sit idly by and say "I'll support whatever the hell he does."...

Well...Maybe YOU do...
