I can't help but wonder how much talent and achievement is wasted by society and employers insistence on a college degree for a person to be considered worthwhile.

To play the devil's advocate, many places say "Must have college degree OR commensurate experience"...

Interning, help-desk, or entry-level support is a great way of kickstarting a career...If your resume says no degree, but it DOES say something like "3 years experience in Help Desk; unix/linux environment, script writing and troubleshooting; junior programming", that can be more valuable than a piece of paper...Most places are willing to give you shot...

To be the curator of a zoo department requires extensive knowledge...I'm SURE this guy proved he had it long before he became the curator...

...and "yes"...That happens today...I have an 15-month Associate Degree from a computer school...My boss?...An 8-month diploma from a different computer school...

Many places use software to screen out anyone without a Bachelor's degree some insist on a particular major. Some personnel departments are incapable or unwilling to evaluate experience.

One of the nice things about the tight labor market in the Trump economy is that more employers will have to look at experience and ability in lieu of a degree.
