Default Moon & Venus together 8th Sept., 2013

Well I guess I was the only one who got a picture {from PW} of the early night of the 8of Sept., when the crescent Moon had Venus right beside it.

Something not often seen but once a year I believe. Look to the right of the moon on the same level.

I went out the early part of the 9th but didn't take my tripod and got only one with Saturn where Venus is in this picture. Yet while deleting all of the waste it went with them. My Bad. As it was a bit brighter, yet a bit further away.

And when looking at the Moon it seems fuzzy yet this is from the suns light hitting just to the dark side of the Moon. Giving the effect of more like a banana to the moon.

I will scan in soon the JPL picture of this 3 days of this event...

That is a cool pic. When it gets clear of clouds up here you get some great night views. Folks come from all over the country for dark night star gazing. The Amish don't make much light at night!

I think I might step in it, yet I am going to ask why is it about the night & the Amish, if you know?

They don't have dusk to dawn pole lights like English farms do. There is one English farm about 5-6 miles away in Pa. that has a light and that is it. The best sky watching is in Cherry Springs park across the border in Pa. A huge state forest lands abuts the park and there is no roads open to traffic so no headlights either.
PADCNR-Cherry Springs State Park
Cherry Springs State Park is nearly as remote and wild today as it was two centuries ago. Its dark skies make it a haven for astronomers. Named for the large stands of black cherry trees in the park, the 82-acre state park is surrounded by the 262,000-acre Susquehannock State Forest. The Susquehanna Trail passes nearby and offers 85 miles of backpacking and hiking.

I saw it and other then knowing that is what it was it isn't really very impressive. I do like a good meteor shower though.
