the evolution thread made me think folks might be interested in some audio clips from a couple of books.
1st 13 things that don't make sense. The Most Baffling Scientific Mysteries of Our Time Spanning disciplines from biology to cosmology, chemistry to psychology to physics, Michael Brooks thrillingly captures the excitement of scientific discovery.Science’s best-kept secret is this: even today, there are experimental results that the most brilliant scientists cannot explain. When we look to the "anomalies" that science can’t explain, we often discover where science is about to go. Here are a few of the anomalies that Michael Brooks investigates in 13 Things That Don’t Make Sense: ... •Gases have been detected on Mars that could only have come from carbon-based life forms •Cold fusion, theoretically impossible and discredited in the 1980s, seems to work in some modern laboratory experiments •It’s quite likely we have nothing close to free will •Life and non-life may exist along a continuum, which may pave the way for us to create life in the near future •Sexual reproduction doesn’t line up with evolutionary theory and, moreover, there’s no good scientific explanation for why we must die Science starts to get interesting when things don’t make sense. Science’s best-kept secret is this: even today, there are experimental results and reliable data that the most brilliant scientists can neither explain nor dismiss. In the past, similar “anomalies” have revolutionized our world. If history is any precedent, we should look to today’s inexplicable results to forecast the future of science. Michael Brooks heads to the scientific frontier to confront thirteen modern-day anomalies and what they might reveal about tomorrow’s breakthroughs.Amazon part of the prolog about 12 mins http://mynetbox.info/audio/13-things-no-sense.mp3 Some might notice that even after his own warnings he assumes info. Forbidden Archeology Over the centuries, researchers have found bones and artifacts proving that humans like us have existed for millions of years. Mainstream science, however, has supppressed these facts. Prejudices based on current scientific theory act as a "knowledge filter," giving us a picture of prehistory that is largely incorrect.amazon ur ... somewhere near the end http://mynetbox.info/audio/Laetoli-Footprints-3mil.mp3 neither books are Creationist or ID far from it. just FYI

I realized science didn't have all the answers when I had my kids 4 and 6 years apart. Each time the great and awful pediatric associations came down with an indisputable text of advisories. They did a complete turn around three times !! ![]() The only thing we know for sure is that science is evolving.

Below is a link to the 1st part of the chapter on sex. basically sex makes no sense to have arisen and proliferated when self replication was 1st and is better. There's no evolutionary idea that accounts for it. http://mynetbox.info/audio/13-Things-no-sense-sex.mp3

When I read about a book, article, blog or other media venue regarding science and the first one off the bat is false, I usually set it down and do not bother proceeding.
