There's a lot of energy in wind around, and above the planet. Is there anybody, anywhere who didn't already know that? Theoretically you could maybe harvest all of it. That's where the science ends in that article, other than some silliness about how the climate would be affected if you did take it all. That's true, but it's not going to happen, so why worry about it? The little wind energy we've been able to harvest so far has shown us a problem. You get less than what you put into getting it. Economically and politically, I mean, (you don't even need the laws of thermodynamics) which is probably why those who want to tell us stuff we already knew don't want to talk about those aspects.

My thought is have they considered the changes in the weather patterns & increase wind speeds around the world?

They have. The actual study is online somewhere. I'm not going to look for it. I've seen it though.

Basically, as I recall, they say if you could access enough wind energy to fuel the planet it would not affect climate.

Even if they're correct though, it wouldn't matter. You can't do what they propose. Reality has shown us it can't be done politically and economically. Even if you consider the issue of what's possible technically, they're considering stuff like wind turbines on kites. Wanna be the first person to invest in that one?
