Of course.
The points I'm making in this thread aren't mutually exclusive to that; IOW, one can hold to both.
But some people here apparently want to pretend cultural morality today aren't HUGELY SHAPED by religion from over time. Anyone who can't see or admit that is deluded frankly, and I just don't have time to waste with someone who can't even agree with something so basic as that. No one here is arguing it doesn't also happen the OTHER way.

I think that's probably correct that there's shaping both ways; we agree. The enlightenment had a huge effect on Christianity, for example.

I see nobody here who is saying that cultural morality isn't impacted by religion.
But I guess your strawman claim above is just your excuse to bow out on a thread where you offered a quote you don't want to admit how egregiously flawed it was...

The fact you felt you had to water it down from the word "shaped" to "impacted" in order to save face, speaks volumes. LOL

You might as well ask where language comes from

Joe, what you just did is profoundly amusing.

You're mocking your own strawman and then criticiquing me for not matching it. Claiming I am "watering down" when my language does not match yours.

YOU are the one who used language that we'll say is at level 8.
That was never my opinion.
I replied, giving my actual opinion, which states it's more at a level 4.

OTHERS have actually chimed in with similar comments. I don't see anybody on this board who responded matching your level 8 association...

But of course, you choose me to single out and criticize because I don't match your level of association.

I didn't feel I had to "water it down".
I felt it necessary to CORRECT YOUR STRAWMAN and give what was actually my position.

Nope, no one but you has disagreed with the very basic idea here that religion shapes cultural morality. However, the truth is you know it really DOES and you and I both know that you actually AGREE, but you just cannot bring yourself to utter those words. So you changed it to "impacted" instead of "shaped" so as to convince yourself you didn't lose face over it. LOL Gottago and Jimbo's points were that the shaping goes both ways, which it does. They are right.
