Default Kansas church announces support for gay marriage

I am not anti gay nore a racist, yet I never even consider I would be posting this bit of news. It just never came into my mind till today when I read it in my local on line newspaper.

And then I decided to post it. At this site are 8 comments, as whether this is a real church or not. I did the search for the readers.

Plus I left off the Northeast to shorten the title.

Church says this is first time UUMF has formally declared support for legal same-sex movement

By The Capital-Journal

A Northeast Kansas church announced their intention to throw support behind the same-sex marriage movement in the state.

On Wednesday the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Manhattan announced in a news release that the church has adopted a statement of principle in support of marriage equality in Kansas.

The principle states:

“We, the members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Manhattan, Kansas, in light of our religious and moral principles and commitment to human rights, hereby declare full support for Marriage Equality for couple of any gender identity or sexual orientation, and call for the State of Kansas to legally recognize same-sex marriage.”

The membership unanimously decided the measure after their services on Sunday at the Fellowship building, 481 Zeandale Road in Manhattan. Tom Phillips, chair of the UUFM Executive Board, said the measure is in keeping with the greater Unitarian Universalist vision.

The news release says UUFM intentionally inclusive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, but that this statement marks the first time the congregation has formally declared their support for legal same-sex marriage in Kansas.

“Unitarian Universalists across the land have been working valiantly for marriage equality,” said Michael Nelson, UUFM minister, in the news release. “We should engage in this faith-based issue more seriously. Standing on the side of love calls us to be in open dialogue with the citizens of Kansas so that equality can become available to all. We are called to give heft and momentum to our principles by working to eradicate injustice in all its manifestations.”

Nelson married his partner of more than 30 years, Charles Dedmon, on Nov.17 in California. However, their marriage isn’t recognized in Kansas. The news release states that Nelson and Dedmon are rallying support for same-sex marriage through an organization called All’s Fair Kansas.

Unitarian Universalism

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Unitarian Universalism, or Unitarianism,[2][3][4] is a liberal religion characterized by a "free and responsible search for truth and meaning".[5] Unitarian Universalists do not share a creed, but are unified by their shared search for spiritual growth.
The roots of Unitarian Universalism are in liberal Christianity, specifically Unitarianism and Christian Universalism. From these traditions comes a deep regard for intellectual freedom and inclusive love, so that currently individual congregations and members actively seek inspiration in and derive spiritual practices from all major world religions.[6]

The theology of individual Unitarian Universalists ranges widely, including Humanism, Atheism, Agnosticism, Pantheism, Deism, Christianity, Judaism, Neopaganism, Buddhism, and many more.

Now I can see why these 8 debated it status. And I think there will be more debating on it sense I posted it.I do not stand in judgment of these Churches nore their Religion.
Sense they seem to be covering about all of the major and some minor belief systems.

The Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) was formed in 1961, a consolidation of the American Unitarian Association, established in 1825, and the Universalist Church of America,[7] established in 1866. It is headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts, and serves churches mostly in the United States. The Canadian Unitarian Council became an independent body in 2002.

Unitarian Universalists supporting that is pretty much expected. It's basically an anything-goes denomination; I'm not really sure why they call themselves a 'church' really. That's not meant as a criticism; it's just a statement of fact.

Which I to think of with this & our West Boro Baptist Church of HATE. Really how can they be called Churches in the reality of what is known as faiths be it the major 4 faiths to the lesser ones which either have one God or several which all believe in harmony in Nature and life.

Yet the laws we have kind of make it easy...

I once took an ad from the back of some magazine which if I sent in $10.00 I could be a Preacher, so I did. And got back papers one which allowed me to marry people.
I had did it to see the results as at that time in my small church I was to report once a year on issues in life & the news which were more or less to increase our fellowships understanding.

{ I lived in a town which today isn't on any map in Kansas } back then the 30 something families who lived in this town who's mail came from Reading which was over 10 miles from us in Northern Lyon County.

I also did the full 3 Churches our Pastor travel to, news letters. Which took around 5 hours one day a week.

Admire was the next Church down the road if one cares to look up the area on State HWY 56 going west from Osage City ours was about 20 miles from Osage City. Admire was around 30+ and each was south off State HWY 56.
