Documenting a gay Christian pop duo's story

Quote:
Being in a committed romantic relationship and working together is tough. Being a gay couple and a Christian pop duo is nearly unheard of.

But that's the life of Jason Warner and deMarco DeCiccio, known professionally as Jason & deMarco. Their story is the basis of "We're All Angels," a documentary that's making the rounds of GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) film festivals across the country.
We see a great many posts from certain posters that refer to the bad things that occur, gays taking communion dressed up as nun's, the phantom desire to remove the rights of Christians to practice their religion, and many others. I just thought that it would be good to see a story on the other side of the table for once.

They just ask them to be smart, truthful, honest, and show a modicum of good sense." Ann Richards, Former Texas Governor

Well, as a former, longtime Christian myself (I was at different times both a Catholic and a non-denominational fundamentalist) I can only say I don't see any way to reconcile homosexuality with the basic tennants of Christianity -- or any of the major othrodox religions for that matter.

I think "queer theology," as some have called it, really requires a lot of rationalization and theological gymnastics.

Be that as it may, I also know it's not my place to tell anybody what religion, if any, to practice or how to practice it. Some Christian churches have decided to recognize and accept gay unions... some have not.

I do think it's great that these guys seem to have a high level of devotion to their faith and to one another. Plus, at the end of the day, people are really just people.

I certainly don't agree with gays on everything, but what I really don't agree with is trying to portray them as some sort of inhuman monsters or dangerous freaks.

What's wrong being gay in a relationship? One should not judge someone by their own sexual preferences...

It is actually quite easy if you remove the biased interpretations that have been passed down by the business known as the church. "The Church" needs to have someone to demonize and to be better than in order to maintain its exclusivity.

If you believe that he bible is divinely inspired then read it for what it is, not what other people tell you it says.

I think "queer theology," as some have called it, really requires a lot of rationalization and theological gymnastics.
By that logic, most modern Judeo-Christian people practice "feminist theology".

If you look at Judaism and Christianity, both the Old and New Testament have EXPLICIT statements advocating the subjugation of women as inferior with lesser capabilities under religious law.

1st Timothy: 2
9I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, 10but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women[a] will be saved[b] through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

Women are forbidden from wearing certain jewelry, and from teaching positions. They are not to have authority over men. (police, senatorial / congresswoman positions, etc are forbidden by Christian dogma)
They are to be "silent".

In today's society, we don't hear much of a peep from people on these subjects.
If we do, they are relegated as "nuts" instead of strict religious conservatives.

It seems that today's society already accepts the "required" amount of "rationalization and theological gymnastics" to allow female equality.

Christianity has evolved on a few issues.
"Theological gymnastics" are nothing new, and it would be hypocritical to criticize one set of "gymnastics" but not another...
