And another ...

Prominent atheist blogger converts to Catholicism
By Dan Merica, CNN

Quote:
Washington (CNN) – She went from atheist to Catholic in just over 1,000 words.

Leah Libresco, who’d been a prominent atheist blogger for the religion website Patheos, announced on her blog this week that after years of debating many “smart Christians,” she has decided to become one herself, and that she has begun the process of converting to Catholicism.

Libresco, who had long blogged under the banner “Unequally Yoked: A geeky atheist picks fights with her Catholic boyfriend,” said that at the heart of her decision were questions of morality and how one finds a moral compass.

“I had one thing that I was most certain of, which is that morality is something we have a duty to,” Libresco told CNN in an interview this week, a small cross dangling from her neck. “And it is external from us. And when push came to shove, that is the belief I wouldn’t let go of. And that is something I can’t prove.”

“I had one thing that I was most certain of, which is that morality is something we have a duty to,. . .and it is external from us."

I have taken a lot of flak for that observation, or ones like it. That is, that Humans require moral guidance from outside of themselves. We are naturally incomplete in that regard, just as we cannot supply our own bodily energy, but must acquire it from outside.

Humanists, however, believing Man to be other than he is, tend to become outraged at this suggestion, and usually spout, "I know what right and wrong are." When asked what they are, or how they could exist in a mechanistic universe, or for the source of their "wisdom," they tend to go off in a huff, or proclaim, against all evidence, that "people are born knowing."

I saw this story and thought. "wow is she full of crap or what?" Maybe she was agnostic but her story was so stupid when I heard her talking that I think next month she will be a Muslim.

What outrages me is not you having your view. It is when you tell me why I have mine. I choose not to believe in invisible beings and I believe we come by our morality regardless of religion. Believe what you will but don't expect people not to be outraged when you come with a holier than thou attitude. Your belief sustains you. Good for you.

The second verb of your first sentence is an incorrect usage, as the same word is in your terminal sentence.

Recommended amendment try: "viciously imagined."

I always expect simpler minds to become outraged with slight provocation.

And, but this may be beyond the scope of the thinking to which you limit yourself, my thinking does not, in fact "sustain me." It is used in this case to illuminate the world as it is for me, and so expands my perceptions.

And strictly speaking, only God is holy.

Now, you may have an ethical code, and good for you! But Morality refers to an absolute, and unless you wish to claim infinite transcendency, you will have to accept, even if you won't admit that a superhuman framework is required.

We have already been down this road. I an satisfied with my view. We don't need to share yours.

No, it doesn't. I realize you THINK it does, but it most certainly does not.

Weird. I have never heard a single person state that "people are born knowing". How ****ing stupid.
