That's a pretty interesting spin on what Obama actually said, certainly didn't say Ho Chi Minh was the next Thomas Jefferson. Fact is one can take inspiration from people historically considered a force of positive change/revolution/etc and end up with results that deviate from who inspired them.

Let me put it this way: Every single politician in the United States, left, right, D, R, I, winner, loser, whether you like or hate them, will tell you with a straight face that they draw inspiration from our Founding Fathers and the revolutionary spirit that they embodied when they created this great nation. They've trained themselves pretty well on that lesson.

I'm not offended that Minh wrote about what inspired him to Truman, nor with Obama saying what Minh wrote in the letter. I'm infinitely more offended over what he did with his revolution and the atrocities thereafter, but not exactly much we can do with that offense. Maybe next time they meet, Obama can froth at Sang for a while, although I'm not sure what good that'll do diplomacy wise. Perhaps for an encore the next time he and Merkel chat, Obama can ramble a bit about Hitler.

I can speak to these things as I witnessed them. From coming home from the Nam to years later when I parted with society and ran into the Yuppies then called Rainbow People, who went into the woods just below the end of the tree line once a year for a week of festive to remind them where they came from.

I lived in these woods & mountains and when this time came I would wake up & see the crowds coming.

They were pleasent & shared some items I couldn't get my hands on. Plus when the ladies bathed they did it in the open where I had a pipe coming from my cave to relieve the under ground stream.

I had a wake up show every morning.
