OTP, I never said that he went "off the plantation", I said that was the attitude of the liberals who attack him. From my perpsective, he's never been "on the plantation", but from people like YOU, the very idea that he has a mind of his own and that he doesn't line up with the expected norm of black people places him clearly "off the plantation". YOU and those like you are the plantation owners, complaining about the fact that there's someone whom they expect to line up with their expectations and isn't. If the term offends, too bad. It's an accurate description that perfectly encompasses the liberal mindset towards any black person who isn't a liberal.

The truth often offends, but that doesn't stop it from being the truth. There is a VERY widespread attitude among liberals that blacks and women are supposed to liberals and when one of those two groups is a conservative and successful at it, they attack with a viciousness that is truly amazing to me. It is VERY similar to the attitude of Southern slaveholders towards blacks who weren't "on the plantation". They saw free blacks as a threat to their way of life and if one was caught running away, the punishment was VASTLY worse than the punishment for any other offence. Their pespective shows incredible parallels in modern liberals attitude towards groups that they beleive should be part of them. The incredible hatred towards people like Clarence Thomas, Allan West, Sarah Palin, Condi Rice, etc. is truly amazing in it's intensity and the common thread among all of them is the fact that they all are parts of the two groups that most liberals think should be supporting them.

I went back and re-read my post and I have to apologize for the broadbrushing. My intent was to point out a widespread trend among liberals to attack anyone that see as a threat to the homogenous groups that many on the left see as "theirs", it wasn't to pigeonhole all liberals, just a large, very vocal and unopposed (by the rest of "the left") portion of them. If you'd care to prove me wrong, all you have to do is show me where there's been any substantial group of liberals that has stood up and denounced the kneejerk attacks on those blacks and women who aren't liberals, but instead are strong, outspoken conservatives.

If we can get back to the original contention, the point being made was that women and minorities are considered evil if they don't adhere to the Democratic Party's platform and they get attacked viciously as traitors...
