Personally, I had a bit of a problem with Carter's lack of action on getting our Iran hostages out, so he's a good man, but he was weak on foreign affairs imo. To me, that is paramount in the making of an effective president.

Well, as Presidents go, I'm willing to concede that Carter was perhaps one of the worst in modern times. However the Presidency has nothing to do with the man holding the position being a "good man".

We can argue that some of our "better" (using general popularity) Presidents were not great men. FDR was reliant on the booze and cheated on his wife. Kennedy was a pill popper who cheated on his wife. Johnson would sell ice to Eskimos. Nixon was a liar and a cheat. That has little impact on their ability to do the job of President.

Napoleon had a quote about greatness... Something about it takes greatness to become a leader and pettyness to keep being a leader and rarely does such a man posess both...

You're right, but it sounded like your post was a response to mine, in which I stated I believe Bush is a good man and deserves credit and respect. With Carter, I believe he is also a good and decent man, but he was weak in so many areas that I find it difficult to really look on his presidency with any kind of favor. I was really just commenting personally on what I think about Bush.

Carter couldn't get the hostages out, because Reagan was talking to the Iranian's behind Carter's back and cut a deal with them not to release the hostages until he took office.

Barbra scares me, and when it comes to Jackie there are far more interesting Bouviers. She came from some crazy stock. But she was very pretty.

This is the part of the interview that surprized me about Bush.

I haven't seen it yet but the few short lead ups I have seen made me understand why many of the decisions were made and gave a good insight of the WH at that era..
