Really, both sides have talked about not wanting another "insider" who was already on the justice track. Kagan satisfies that. She is on the opposite side, trying cases before the court instead of deciding cases that lead to it.

From what I've heard Kagan is a consensus builder and I doubt she will have too much trouble being seated.Progressives see her as more conservative than the man she will replace!

She needed to be confirmed when she got the job as Solicitor General, so I don't see the confirmation doing a 180 unless something hidden turns up...

I read that, too...

Their main opposition is that when she was at Harvard Law, she hired who she believed was the most qualified instead of hiring according to race and gender...

Yup...she will have to answer for her past actions and decisions and that's the way it should be.I believe that ultimately she will be confirmed but it won't be a cakewalk..

Little track record and hear she was behind the banning of the military recruiting on campus at Harvard...............this is lifetime not just a job in the administration...........we'll see.

And the conservative judges thought it OK for corperations to support candidates. They all do strange things

Sorry but I fail to see an correlation with what I posted.

Harvard receives a LOT of government money, and when she basically outlaws our military from recruiting from the student body she needs to answer for it and that position needs to be weight against decisions she might make in the future.
