I wish that he had chosen a more appropriate alternate activity, such as scheduling and attending a public broadcast of the funeral and making a short statement to the people of Poland. This isn't a case showing disrespect to the Polish people, just a case of a poor choice in how he handled the situation of not being able to attend.
Sorry, I disagree, it shows how inept and out of touch he is with being the leader of the most powerful nation on the planet!

I'm an independent. There are definitely some things I'm on the left and other things that I'm on the right--but as of lately I've been more to the right than the left--particularly with how much I've begun to realize how left-tilted media seems to be--even more particularly in how forgiving they are of the left when they make mistakes.

I like most of what Ron Paul pushes forth, but I also like what much of Dennis Kucinich pushes forth as well.

On one aspect I understand why the trip was cancelled.
However, some other leaders went to great lengths to get to the funeral.
Certainly if he wanted, President Obama, could have flown to an unaffected area & then drove to show support for the Polish people & their government.
But, he couldn't even find the time to go to their embassy in Washington --- indifference; or lack of respect?
I guess he has other priorities.

If I remember correctly, Russia was not affected by the 'plume' at that time although most of northern Europe was, so he would have had to fly in to Portugal and travel from there by road or rail.
Prince Charles also had to cancel his planned attendance.

True though, it would have been a sympathetic gesture to visit the Polish Embassy or better yet, to send a personal message? Did he not do that either?

Nobody is ripping on Obama for NOT going to the funeral...There was a volcano and flight paths were shut down...That's perfectly understood...

Correct, and that is where the issue lies...

You would THINK that Obama would've done something in lieu of not being able to go personally. Something that expresses condolences, grief, or a bond with the Polish people.

Not golf...

Yeah, by itself it's not a big thing, but these paper cuts add up...Giving the leader of England DVDs he can't even use; bowing to multiple leaders; walking out on a leader who is a guest of the White House; and now golfing instead of showing sympathy for the death of the leader (and multiple dignitaries) of an strong American ally...

It isn't so much the act itself...It's what it portrays...Actions mean something....especially when you're supposed to have the most important job in the world...

Hmmm.....

You're assuming that "nothing" was done behind the scenes with any administration staff members......

I don't believe that to be the case........

We don't know everything that is said behind closed media doors........

Done something INSTEAD OF golfing...NOT "done something" and THEN go golfing...

Even if he did do something behind closed doors, knowing what he did next (which is golf) shows a portrayal of "I am sorry this tragedy has befallen the people of Poland; now excuse me while I work on my short-game."...

If he did nothing and went golfing instead, it shows he doesn't give a rat's ass and is honest about it...

And if he DID do something, and then went golfing, it shows that he's pretending to care, but doesn't really...

You pick...

I had thought Kizzume was a liberal who had jumped the tracks to conservative, but he corrected me after I asked.

So now I won't have to beat him to a bloody pulp.
