Obama Administration Steers Lucrative No-Bid Contract for Afghan Work to Dem Donor

Quote:
The Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a prominent Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.

Despite President Obama's long history of criticizing the Bush administration for "sweetheart deals" with favored contractors, the Obama administration this month awarded a $25 million federal contract for work in Afghanistan to a company owned by a Democratic campaign contributor without entertaining competitive bids, Fox News has learned.

The contract, awarded on Jan. 4 to Checchi & Company Consulting, Inc., a Washington-based firm owned by economist and Democratic donor Vincent V. Checchi, will pay the firm $24,673,427 to provide "rule of law stabilization services" in war-torn Afghanistan.

A synopsis of the contract published on the USAID Web site says Checchi & Company will "train the next generation of legal professionals" throughout the Afghan provinces and thereby "develop the capacity of Afghanistan's justice system to be accessible, reliable, and fair."

The legality of the arrangement as a "sole source," or no-bid, contract was made possible by virtue of a waiver signed by the USAID administrator. "They cancelled the open bid on this when they came to power earlier this year," a source familiar with the federal contracting process told Fox News.

"That's kind of weird," said another source, who has worked on "rule of law" issues in both Afghanistan and Iraq, about the no-bid contract to Checchi & Company. "There's lots of companies and non-governmental organizations that do this sort of work."
Before anyone jumps up and gives the standard "Yeah, yeah...Bush did it all of the time, too." response, may I remind you that Bush did NOT say that he wasn't going to during his campaign...

But, by contrast, Obama DID repeatedly yell from highest mountain that this sort of behavior wouldn't happen during his presidency...

I'm sure there were no-bid contracts throughout the presidencies of the last 10 presidents...if not longer...But ONLY Obama condemned the practice and attacked his predecessor for it...

Clinton didn't attack Bush41 for them and announce an end to them if elected...

Bush43 didn't attack Clinton for them and announce an end to them if elected...

But Obama DID attack Bush43 for them and announced an end to them if elected...

So the no-bids contracts aren't the issue here (although I'd assume most people would disagree with them when there are multiple organizations and companies that can do the work...as is the case here)...

The issue is that...ONCE AGAIN...All of Barack Obama's statements come with an expiration date...

This is not a right/left thing...It's an "honesty of the president" thing...and these are the kinds of things that the INDEPENDENTS get angry at...and why they're walking away from their original support in droves...

Yep, go to keep those wheels greased. Nice to see that the "enlightened" liberals are no different than anyone else.

I remember a wise old man once said something to the affect that all obama promises come with an expiration date.....Can't think of who said it, but he sure was wise!

Jim Geraghty

I HAVE attributed the quote to Gerathy previously on this forum so I wasn't trying to take credit...Didn't think I needed to do it every time...
