Default Do You Support Federal Funds for Abortion?

The House or Representatives JUST passed an amendment sponsored by Michigan Democrat Stupak that will block federal funding on abortions in the healthcare bill (with exceptions for a threat to the moher's life, incest or rape)...The final vote was 240 Yeas (64 Dems/176 Repubs) to 194 Nays (All Dems) with 1 voting present (Repub)...

Pushing aside the arguement of whether or not abortion should be legal, do you believe that your taxdollars should be used to fund ALL abortions (and not just the ones in which there is a threat to the moher's life, incest or rape?...

And how do you feel about the 194 members of the House that voted against this bill?...

To use a Rushism, "Abortion is the sacriment of the left" You had better believe that given a long enough period of time the dems were going to try to re-fund abortion.

Here is the paradox: On a purely principled level, I am indeed opposed to the concept of federal funding for abortion services. But as a practical matter, I had hoped that the Stupak amendment would fail, so as to make it all the more difficult for many of the "Blue Dog" Democrats to vote for the healthcare bill.

The Stupak amendment, however, passed (although the language will almost certainly be modified considerably--perhaps removed from the bill entirely--in committee, if the Senate passes healthcare legislation).

And, of course, the healthcare bill passed the House tonight, by 220-215. (No doubt, Nancy Pelosi can count heads. And twist arms. She would not have allowed the measure to come to a vote tonight if it had not been a fait accompli.)

I voted no., And I am glad the amendment passed; hope it sees its way into the Senate final.

What I found repulsive was that "Right to Life" threatened that any member voting "present" would be considered by them to have voted "no".
Since when is the lobbyist allowed to openly threaten a damned congressman?

If the woman was either raped or her life was in danger if the fetus got bigger, I'd say yes.

Any other reason, and I'd say no.

This is why I voted "unsure".

Federal funds are none of your business?

Would you give the same answer for cosmetic surgery?

I have to agree with pj that it is more than likely that in committee this amendment will not make it into the legislative language.

Reid has more of a problem I think in passing health care reform, (and we all know it isn't reform but a take over of the entire health care system,) because he has to many dems facing re-election in 2010. Most intelligent people see this for what it is an attempt by government to control more of our lives and a chance to fill government coffers with more money.

If Reid can't pass something by the end of the year the nation will have dodged a big bullet, and we will be able to breath a sigh of relief!

If someone really needed plastic surgery I would support it. Sure. If you mean for no medical reason at all? No. But it would still be better if those decisions are left to a patient and their doctor. We spend an awful lot of time sticking our noses into other peoples business. Maybe if we minded our own a little more we could get on with things. You don't want an abortion don't get one. You don't want some of your taxes to pay for a legal proceedure too damn bad. Now that clears that up. We pay for tons of things we don't all support. But this is a nation of many different beliefs. Can't please everyone all the time.
