So far as dignity goes.. Are any of you aware that the competitors for Britain's Got Talent will be doing a televised command performance for the Queen of England.

This is a freakin' non-issue that just presents a chance for some to Obama bash.

The only difference is in your mind. Britain's Got Talent is, as a matter of fact, another Simon Cowell "cheesy" reality show.

Is the Queen appearing on on the show as well? Kind of comparing apples to oranges, the president is an acting world leader, the Queen is essentially a powerless figurehead. Not to mention I could care less what the people in the U.K. do.

OUR president should not be appearing on trashy reality television. It is not appropriate for the POTUS... it degrades the image and cheapens our highest office. As a citizen of the U.S. I say it is not appropriate - and I know I'm not alone.

Its all we can do to view the office of the POTUS with half-hearted sincerity as it is. If Obama goes around appearing on every trash television fad show as if there was no difference between the office of the President and an episode of Jerry Springer, nobody will ever take politics serious in this country again.

It only degrades the POTUS if the POTUS behaves like a moron. And why doesn't anyone comment on Nixon saying "Sock it to me" On Laugh In? It actually helped his image. I think you might be over exagerating peoples stress over this sort of thing. Most of us wouldn't notice either way because we don't watch. And those that do watch would probably enjoy it. And we would all survive.

Could anything Nixon have done NOT helped his image?

Yes, she is appearing on the show. No point, really, in having a televised command performance if the person that the performance is before is not on the show.

And it is rather disrespectful to English tradition and dignity for you to dismiss the Queen so cavalierly. I assure that they hold the office of Queen in at least as high esteem as we do the office of POTUS. (Bet they don't abbreviate it as much either. Have you ever seen her referred to as QOE?)

I just fail to see the big deal about this or any of the other BS issues like (gasp!) taking a walk with his wife. And I never will unless I see that President Obama is neglecting his job in favor of these extra curricular activities. It is all just silly Obama-bashing.

Nixon had not yet been elected president at that point.
Running for president & running the country are two different things.
President Obama needs to learn the difference.
I'd like to see him give up the campaigning.

McCain, Clinton and Obama appeared on video for a wrestling show one evening...kind of unusual, but was done as CANDIDATES...not JOBHOLDER...

Again, This is America. This isn't England. And Obama isn't a king. As long as he conducts himself with dignity he can visit a host of venues. You guys have more silly things you get all bound up about.

I'm not bound up about any appearance President Obama makes --- I would just like to see him get out of campaign mode & into governing mode.
I think that would help a lot.
He seems to be teetering between the two.

I have complimented him on things I've agreed with & have taken him to task on things I dodn't.
Agreed with: the way the pirate issue was handled
Disagreed with: the idea of closing gitmo
just to name two opposing issues...
