Default Who is going to pay the back rent when the eviction moratorium ends?

Currently right now the eviction moratorium will end June 30th and the deadbeats will be kicked out. Maybe even sooner if the rulings by different judges stand that the CDC has no authority to issue such a moratorium.

Who is going to pay the back rent when the eviction moratorium ends?

The renters not paying their rent
We the tax payer
The property owner will be forced to eat it.

I see one of two things happening.Either we the tax payer will end up paying that back rent. Or what most likely will happen is that the property owners will be forced to eat it. Sure they will try in vain to collect but eventually will have to take a huge loss by selling their debt to some 3rd party for pennies on the dollar and we will hear pity stories from the rats in the media about how mean ol people are trying to collect money from the deadbeats that owe back rent.

Honestly I don't know. It was a bad idea unless they had a plan.

I doubt the government will make the evil landlords whole. They are after all those evil rich people taking advantage of the poor innocent tenants. For most renters the bill will be thousands, which they won't have.

More likely, the government will mandate a moratorium on rent collection or eviction. Which will destroy the rental market. Government may at that point step in with something similar to the student loan program. Which has worked so well.

There may be some renters with a sense of obligation to attempt to payback their debts, but they will be few and far between. The Fed gov't will not lift a finger to help these people that are being forced by gov't edict, to eat the loss as it would not sit well for elected officials to be seen helping the evil rich landlords.

No, the property owners will be eating this one and many will have to file for bankruptcy protection or as mentioned earlier, sell for pennies on the dollar to a third party.

As I understand it, these property owners, if they go under, will lose their property to the banks who will then set them up for a "quick sale" option. Any sold short, the bank losses of the Quick sale will likely be paid by the government. So yes, the Tax payers may well foot a good portion of this mistake.

I ran into this a few years ago on a property where a woman who owned the house completely, took a mortgage and gambled it away. The $300K house sold for $195K the bank was re-emberssed by the government.

Yes, this is the typical narrative: Landlords (and, or course, landladies also) are simply "rich"; why, they can easily afford to just "eat the loss."

One wonders what world that those who believe this are actually inhabiting...

people who live in big cities where the landlords usually are rich and broadly invested.
Makes you think the GOP went missing again. Their input could have made for a much wiser plan.

Hard to say, ask this one:

I've often wondered the same thing. But I guess it is typical of people that depend on the government for their existence. They have never done anything themselves to acquire wealth and believe that everyone that has more than them is someone evil or gained that wealth by nefarious means and should be giving it to them. They are the core of the Democratic party.

There was a wiser plan already in place. You don't pay your rent, you get evicted.
