I don't think it's a bad idea. I have heard that we already have all 4 branches of the military that work on this type of stuff now. Like 30 some thousand people total, I think I heard.

I think if they do it, they should use the people that are already involved, and do it within their existing budget.

Space will probably be where the next big war takes place.

As far as the F-35 article. I think it was way over priced. I do not see how the F-35 could possibly replace the F-15, F-16, and A-10. For one thing we can not afford that many. It is not as fast of an interceptor as the F-15.

And it cannot perform the duties of the A-10 warthog. I don't see why they would put a billion dollar aircraft that close to the ground fighting anyway.

I went to a capstone firepower demonstration years ago. I got to see everything from the A-10 to the B2 dropping bombs and firing their cannons.
It was friggin incredible.

No. We have the Air force and NASA.
We agreed in the 60s 'no one owns the moon'
Same goes for outer space.
We don't need to weaponize it. That will only create more enemies who build more rockets, nukes etc.,...No
And yes too expensive.

Undecided. Saw a talking head on tv that did make an interesting point. He said there's a lot of satellites and stuff all over that are mostly unprotected. It wouldn't take much to destroy/disable 'em.

And let's face it, as a society, we're grossly dependent on satellites. They provide us with almost everything; tv, phones, computers, etc.

Taking out our satellites could severely cripple our country.

So yeah, I'm undecided. Need to hear more 'bout it before I form a solid opinion. I understand libs only need to know Trump suggested it before deciding they hate it, but I don't live in that partisan, glue-sniffing, sheep-following world.

Also undecided...

09/11/2001 was the main reason the Department of Homeland Security...Nobody had the forethought to create that department BEFORE 9/11...Would it have made a difference?...Maybe...Who knows?...

That's what I'm thinking here...

It's not so much about what could happen now, but what could happen "X" years down the road...I'm sure scientists and the military are looking at (what could be) future scenarios and want to be prepared for them...Also, this "force" could be used as a "big stick" that prevents others from offensive measures...I'd imagine (except for the religious nutcases) they'd think twice knowing we could knock out their satellite communications in 20 minutes...

I don't think the situation is "dire", but it's probably a good idea to have something set up BEFORE it gets to that point...

we've got 5-10-20 times the military force of most nations of the world already.
we've got Airforce, NASA, and at least one semi secret satellite intel agency under the DOD, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), working on space in general and space "defense".

so by any objective standard there's ZERO need for this.

If we want to something productive in space. Why not use the money to CLEAN UP space a since the space above the earth has become littered with various old space tech?

But I'd suggest an even better alternative. How about sinking 8 billion into a "Project Manhattan" style effort to create/perfect low cost clean alt fuels source(s) so wars over oil/coal/fossil fuel resources are not ever an issue again?
they said it was impossible to go to moon , why is an alt fuel source impossible to Americans? we can do anything we set our minds to. we've ALREADY got the most powerful military the world has ever seen. can we turn a corner to fix a problem we DO have? rather than sink more funds into our biggest strength?

we're like bodybuilders always working on our upper body but forgetting about our legs.

In boot camp in 1967 we saw a film which showed the Navy's firepower. I remember, at it's conclusion, a member of the audience (another boot) asking the Chief moderating the training, "how do I join that navy?".

Notwithstanding your animus for me and other liberals, have you considered an attack on our satellites is an attack on our nation, and would result in a military response of equal or greater force?
