Default 10 worst Presidents: Besides Trump, who do scholars scorn the most?

Dead last. That’s where a group of presidential scholars placed Donald Trump in the pantheon of American presidents.
Quote:
The last time the Presidents & Executive Politics Presidential Greatness survey was conducted four years ago, the bottom 10 — sans Trump — looked pretty much the same, with some minor reshuffling within their inglorious grouping.
History has been kind to only one of them — recent history, at that. This year, the 170 members of the American Political Science Association’s Presidents and Executive Politics section voted George W. Bush out of that worst-of-the-worst group, boosting him from number 35 to number 30.
Quote:
#35 — Zachary Taylor
Taylor, known as “Old Rough and Ready,” earned his low ranking for some of the very things that once made him popular. The country’s 12th president was a war hero who served in the military for four decades, from the War of 1812 to the Mexican War. A political outsider, the first election he voted in was the one he won in 1848. He was a popular president in his time. He owned plantations and slaves, but fought hard to get the western territories admitted as free states to keep the nation united. His pro-union, antislavery rhetoric was initially modeled by Abraham Lincoln (who always scores first place in this survey). But his personal lack of conviction on the issue (he owned 83 slaves) and campaigns against the Seminole and Chippewa make him look amoral in the rearview mirror. He died in office, days after getting a stomach virus from eating raw vegetables and a bowl of cherries. (And no, he wasn’t poisoned. His body was exhumed in 1991 to test that conspiracy theory).
Quote:
#36 — Herbert Hoover
Hoover was so loathed that he got an entire scene in the musical “Annie,” making fun of his legacy. Perhaps our 31st president got a raw deal when he took office in 1929 and the stock market crashed seven months later. But even if America was willing to blame the previous administration for the conditions that led up to the Great Depression, it was Hoover who presided over it and failed to end it. Millions of Americans lost homes and jobs. Shantytowns of the homeless — called Hoovervilles — spread across the nation. A Quaker and humanitarian in his younger days, Hoover repeatedly quashed programs that would bring food and shelter — humanitarian relief — to desperate Americans. Heartless Hoover said he withheld help because he didn’t want to endanger capitalism. “Prosperity cannot be restored by raids upon the public Treasury,” he explained in his 1930 State of the Union address.

I voted for Obama as the worst because he wasn't raised in our culture and obviously had no love for our country and its people.

Carter. He's the only one who could make Obama look halfway good.

Worst so far Obama.
In no particular order:

Wilson, got the U.S. in a totally avoidable war - World War One.

Lyndon Johnston - read an old book called: "A Texan Looks At Lyndon."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J._Evetts_Haley
Jimmy Carter - Gave away the Panama Canal.
Lincoln (yes I know many think he was great) tore this nation apart with the Civil War.
Clinton, with the so called "Assault" weapon ban.
Those are some of the worst.

By the way I think Harding got a bad rap for the Great Depression.

William Henry Harrison
Harrison only got to be president for 32 days. The ninth commander in chief entered office as a war hero; the troops under his command won the Battle of Thames and killed Tecumseh. But the war hero wouldn’t dress warmly for his 1841 inauguration, a cold and windy day in March. And he died of pneumonia a month later. No legacy, no glory.
How can someone who was only in office 32 days be considered one of the worst?

I didn't wade through the entire cesspool posing as a scholarly survey but I did find evidence of how it was rigged to produce results that made the Wapo consider it newsworthy.

Only about half of the so-called scholars invited to participate responded, some more than once. The makeup of the respondents as described in the survey.

Quote:
There is more interesting variation when we move our comparison to the different
partisan and ideological groups within the 2018 survey. In order to identify these groups, we
asked respondents two questions. The first asked which political party the respondent
considered themselves a part of. The results showed that 57.2% (95/166) of respondents were
Democrats, while 12.7% were Republicans (21/166), 27.1% were Independents (45/166), and
3% (5/166) selected Other as their option. The second question asked whether the respondent
ideologically considered themselves to be liberal, somewhat liberal, moderate, somewhat
conservative, or conservative. The results of this question showed that 32.5% (54/166) consider
themselves ideologically liberal, while 25.9% (43/166) consider themselves somewhat liberal,
and 24.1% consider themselves moderate (40/166). Only 5.4% (9/166) consider themselves
ideologically conservative, while 12% (20/166) say they are somewhat conservative.
Turns out 57% of respondents self identified as Democrats which explains the reflexive condemnation of Trump as the very worst President after less than 2 years in office. But hey, any smear of Trump is music to the collective ear of the Wapo.

I don't think we've had a president in a long time that has so flagrantly degraded the office he holds as Donald Trump. One of my biggest concerns is the seemingly rapid decline in our status as a global leader. Under him we left TPP, left the Paris Climate Accords, left the Iran nuclear deal, left the UN Human Rights Council, threatened individual American businesses over Twitter, repeatedly attacked our closest allies and started a trade war, and cozied up to authoritarians like Kim Jong-Un, Putin, and Duterte.

Hell, Trump has praised Kim over and over again for how he runs his country and people. Except that the guy is a brutal dictator that puts his countrymen into labor camps for even the smallest infractions against his authoritarian State.

I remember when cnredd said that Obama would make enemies of our friends and friends of our enemies. He was right, just was off by one president.

Easily the worst president in my lifetime.

Naturally my pick was Ronald Reagan. If not for the fairness doctrine repeal, we would not have fake news or Donald Trump. He did a lot of other bad things too as I have enumerated here many times. The economy was maybe the worst but his environmental law repeals concerning trade are right up there too. Any break he could give the big gahuna and any slight to the little guy, he went for it. Shaped the country for years and years still to come.
