Constitutional Amendment?

You have been chosen by a random lottery to be the only person to get a once in a lifetime opportunity to make up one brand new constitutional amendment that gets added to the constitution immediately.

What do you add?
Why?

Re: Constitutional Amendment?

It takes congressional approval plus 2/3 of all states to ratify a constitutional amendment.

A better hypothetical would be to ask one to make a proposed constitutional amendment and see if said proposal can get approval by 2/3 of the members of this message board.

Sorry for being a fly in the ointment, but that is just the way I roll sometimes.

All political hopefuls campaign on public dime $125,000,000; radio, internet and tv are required to give equal time/money for ads and pay for them themselves. Campaigns can only last 6 mos.

reason. take money out of politics and make candidates beholden to the people.

Re: Constitutional Amendment?

A repeal of the 17th Amendment to take the election of Senators away from the vote buying process it has become and put it back to the State legislatures appointing Senators in the manner in which it was established in the Constitution. This would effectively give the States the power they lost when Senators began to have to give away the farm to win reelection.

Couldn't the state legislators be bought into what senators to appoint?

It would be an amendment reaffirming the 2nd amendment. It would ban permit/license requirements and waiting periods for any kind of firearms. Citizens will be allowed to carry handguns and rifles anywhere that law enforcement and military are allowed to carry them without a license or permit. It will also prevent bans on magazine sizes, magazine fed semiautomatic and automatic weapons. It will prevent citizens from being forced to get smart guns. It will allow citizens to use what ever handheld handguns and rifles local and federal law enforcement agencies and military are allowed to use just in case a new type of handheld gun or rifle is invented. Basically this would uphold and clarify the intent of the 2nd amendment which is for citizens to be able to defend this country against invasions and a tyrannical government.Which in order to do that citizens need adequate weapons to be able to do that and do not need government permission to be able to buy, keep and or carry handguns, shotguns, and rifles that local and federal law enforcement and military uses.

Yes they could. However that is not the point. The point is that the States have lost their representation at the Federal level with Senators subservient to voters instead of the states. That results in a more powerful central gov't (Federal) by the states ceding that power.

If the US Senators are beholden to the State legislature and can be recalled at any time, they are more likely to vote in favor of what benefits their state as opposed to buying votes by voting to spend more Federal money.
