I think that the question leads one to believe something true that simply isn't.

The question is "IS Bill Ayers a terrorist?". The answer is no. Had the question been "WAS Bill Ayers a terrorist?", the answer would have been yes. Let's further the analysis by asking the same type of question on a different topic.

Is George H. W. Bush a teenager? No. Was George H. W. Bush a teenager? Yes. Just because something was, doesn't mean it is and vice-versa.

I think that Ayers committed horrible crimes, does that mean he is still committing crimes? No. Now some will argue that once a terrorist always a terrorist. This is not true. History proves that this is not the case. Sadat, Begin, Quaddafi...

So from an academic point of view... No. He's not a terrorist.

No, because the option you provided had further wording that molested the connotation.

It has nothing to do with the statute of limitations and has everything to do with the evolution of the person.

A simple no would have been sufficient.

It's a bit of a different situation there considering the usage of the word. Normally we would say that a person who has murdered is a murderer. Is a person who has dressed up in drag once or twice for Halloween a cross dresser? No. Is a person who lies on very rare occasion a liar? Technically but we wouldn't call that person a liar in our language usage.

America associates with terrorists every day through our relationship with Israel, Lybia, Ireland, even Mexico if we are to adhere to your definition of the word terrorist.
