I am NOT supporting anyone...
Currently, I'm planning to hold my nose and vote for McCain, but only because the alternative would be a disaster for this country...But I'm having a hard time writing that in stone...

We have already had a republican disaster. I want to mention the definition of insanity here. I don't agree with Obama any more then McCain. What concerns me is our position in the world. There is a growing world wide anti Americanism. akin to antisemitism. This is more serious in my mind then Iraq, Iran or the war on terror. Our hand is getting weaker economically already. Countries that we are competing with are making alliances that specifically target U.S. interests. The hostility to our country is real and growing. I think Obama is in a unique position to effect some of those hostile views. Arrogance has had the exact opposite effect.
Its not that I think we should kiss anyones ass. I just think that voting for Obama reinforces the promise of America. That anyone can be anything through freedom. We have been lucky as a nation to mostly have the right leader at the right time. I think voting McCain as POTUS reinforces the status quo. That isn't McCains fault. I think McCain would do some good things. I really do. But I don't fear Obama. I don't fear he'll ruin the country. Or all that other doom and gloom. I can understand either choice. But predicting Obama would be a disaster is BS. Just like saying McCain would be a disaster is BS. Its Hyperbola. |

More than a few of us will be holing our noses when we vote this November! As an Independent voter,it's often difficult for me to make that final decision.I wanted Rudy but it was not to be....then I wanted Mitt but it was not to be.I've spent years fighting McCain's amnesty plan for illegal aliens only to see him change position on amnesty once he decided to run for president.I refuse to vote for McCain but I respect the people who have made that choice.
I'm no Libertarian but I will be voting for Bob Barr. I agree with many but not all of his positions.Do I think Bob Barr will win? certainly not but I often vote for candidates who have no hope of winning the election. Out of respect,I will not try to change anyones mind as to their preferred candidate. That decision is personal and so is mine! I support the Fair tax and slashing the UN budget. Like Barr...I also believe we can no longer afford to play the role of world policeman.I have often said that destiny must be shaped and not left to mere chance. I still believe this...however,I have a problem with pre-emptive warfare. "The proper use of force is clear. If attacked, the aggressor will experience firsthand the skillful wrath of the American fighting man. However, invading or initiating force against another nation based upon perceived threats and speculative intelligence is simply un-American. We are better than the policy of pre-emptive warfare." Bob Barr So..vote for who you believe is the best man for the job and I will do the same. I respect your choice....and I have also made mine,I'm voting for Bob Barr |

That "perceived threat" was and is very real, no matter how imminent. We went to war with Germany in WWII, and they never attacked us. That was Japan. We went to war with Germany knowing full well that their spread across Europe would make them a threat later on, so we dealt with it before it came to that. It's a good thing we did. And that "speculative intelligence" appears much more so in hindsight. At the time, very few were suggesting that Saddam Hussein did not pose a threat to the United States and the world. Many on both sides of the political aisle in Washington stated as much. The only thing un-American about all of this is the unprecedented undermining of our President, his Administration and this war effort. It's for this reason (and maybe the only reason) that I will be voting for John McCain. |

And I respect that and will not attempt to change your mind.We have both made our decision..so be it. As stated,I do have a problem with pre-emptive warfare. It can have "uncertain" repercussions .I don't want to use this thread to go into details so I will encapsulate. Pre-emptive warfare is great as long as someone else does not decide it has merit against us.The more unpopular we become the greater the chance that others will also see the virtues of pre-emptive warfare.Another point..we will soon find out if Americans favor protracted warfare and the expense in blood and treasure. If they favor protracted warfare..so be it,it's their blood and treasure, let them spend it as they see fit.
