He didn't done anything to earn it. That said hopefully he never returns it.If the Nobel committee wants to be stupid enough to give a prize to someone for something they didn't did then that is their fault.

They should've just gone all out and give him the Heisman, a gold medal, and an Oscar....

Why or why not?
No. It was ridiculous. He hadn't done anything yet. He still hasn't done anything peace prize worthy unless you count a minority rising to the top and I don't think that is what the peace prize is for. As I understand the award it is for significant achievement at immense personal, political and or financial struggle, toward the goal of world peace (or at least national peace). Ghandi, MLK, Anwar Saddat, Jimmy Carter...come to mind.
It was an embarrassment for the President and it lowered the standards of the prize in my opinion.

I found this by accident and just had to leave a comment.

As a Norwegan, I can tell you there are several reasons why Obama received the Peace Prize. Peace is none of those.

The first reason is the health care reform. We Norwegians love social reforms. The Peace Prize was a golden opportunity to influence the american political landscape and ensure re-election of our favorite president. >

The least controversial explanation is that the price would put pressure on Obama, to prevent him form following the same military line as his predecessor. Wich kind of failed... in epic propotions...

A third explanation is Torbjorn Jaglands need to be photographed with his idols. This guy is the biggest asskisser in the history of the universe. No doubt.

Just look at that evil genious to the left! XD (Obama is probably thinking of the 40 000 troops he is about to deploy in Afghanistan).

Finally, we have those who believe the official explanation... In those old days, Norwegian media gave an impression that Obama was going to disarm USAs nuclear arsenal, and start the beginning of a world free from nuclear weapons... thats kind of why he got the price. The Nobel committee put all their money on a new and unfamiliar horse, with what looked like huge potential. They could have won big. They lost it all...

In some years, they will probably put some "over grown" plant, in front of Obamas section in the peace centre.

From the chairman of the Committee on why Obama received the award:

Quote:
Jagland said "We have not given the prize for what may happen in the future. We are awarding Obama for what he has done in the past year. And we are hoping this may contribute a little bit for what he is trying to do," noting that he hoped the award would assist Obama's foreign policy efforts. Jagland said the committee was influenced by a speech Obama gave about Islam in Cairo in June 2009, the president's efforts to prevent nuclear proliferation and climate change, and Obama's support for using established international bodies such as the United Nations to pursue foreign policy goals. The New York Times reported that Jagland shrugged off the question of whether "the committee feared being labeled naïve for accepting a young politician’s promises at face value", stating that "no one could deny that 'the international climate' had suddenly improved, and that Mr. Obama was the main reason...'We want to embrace the message that he stands for.'"

Sounds pretty weak to me.

We have been bullied by our neighbors ever since our kings died from the plage. USA is our closest ally, we follow american politics closely. When people got the impression that Obama was going to introduce norwegian-like social reforms in USA. Lets just say things got out of hand... <_<

The next prize was given to a chineese dissident wich have lead to a ongoing diplomatic crisis with China. Jagland needs to be taken down, no doubt.

Im off to sleep now.

Farewell, my friends.

Well he was a big disappointment to many on the left. The right wing has been led to believe he's a socialist or progressive but he's really a centrist democrat at best. His affordable care act just insures that health care companies stay in the game although it has some good points to it.
